Management three levels up talked to IT, & got all the speakers that were taken from our group. They're all being kept in one manager's office, the whole freakin' table & part of the floor are covered in large Ziploc bags, each labeled with a cube number. My speakers are OK, they weren't damaged at all. I have to take them home, but that's no big deal. I'll just go buy a cheap (Like <$10) pair of earbud headphones & keep them in my pocket if I want music. Sucks that I have to choose between a 400 MHz Dell with no sound or a 233 MHz HP Kayak with built in sound. :(

In spite of the fact that I did get my speakers back undamaged, I still think IT could have handled things a LOT more diplomatically. A warning e-mail, a voice-mail spam from the managers, and THEN a sweep if they still felt there was a problem

In other news, my manager FINALLY gave me a definitive answer on my vacation request... I got the whole week off while Sarah's here.

:)

Good deal. Glad it worked out to your satisfaction, and without violence too! :D

Sucks when people have to pull power trips just to fsuck around. My policy is as long as you disturb the people around you or interfere with business, have you music if you want. Hell, it can get boring a few tunes never hurt anyone. Glad you won this round.

Winston

BTW: HP Kayaks blow donkey balls. The ones we have use Rambust. YUK!!!!

These are really old Kayaks - PII 233's, 128 MB if you're LUCKY. And they're running NT 4.0. I am SO glad that I've been here long enough to guarantee a Dell. They're only 400 MHz, but they beat the hell out of the 233's.

As for the speakers, we didn't really "win." The only way we can get our speakers back is to fill out the proper forms to take PERSONAL property off the premises, & then get IT to escort us to the door.

You need IT to escort you and your speakers out the door? Sounds like a waste of IT resources to me....

Not to mention the fact that they wasted their time going through the entire building, through every cube, & every drawer of every desk to steal them in the first place. [EDIT]Plus, they had to take someone from maintenance with them to unlock the drawers that were locked.[/EDIT]

Now they have to waste their time giving them back too.

Wouldn't it have been a lot easier to tell us they didn't want us to have speakers, & let us take them out ourselves?

Idiots.

Cool! On the speakers and vacation.

I have a 400Mhz Dell but it only has 64 megs ram. Right after I boot up and open just the programs I use for work I am at about 58% system resources. Hopefully after the next shift bid I will get moved to one of the 800Mhz 128 meg machines.

I can't afford Mr. Cockring. I also can't afford to quit, which I'd love to do after this.
