so at the hospital system where i am a resident, they had the great idea to make a monorail between the hospitals, and wll, since we are in indiana, they called it the "people mover". it was supposed to be open about six months ago, but has been plagued with probs (like not stopping, and crashing into the side of the hospital). well, it has been open for public use for 19 days, and then today....

Haha, your state is actually doing something that happened in a Simpson's episode.

And "People Mover" is the dumbest name ever for any form of transportation.

at least in the simpsons, the monorail was functional

I thought the People Mover at Disneyland was more like a flat escalator. The monorail was/is separate. Simpsons come to life... LOL!

isn't the name "people mover" for disney use only?..well i guess when they took the ride out (and put some "high speed" pos) the name became available.....

back in the 50's..tomorrow land was 50's vision of what the future REALLY could look like..now it looks more like a fantasy-type of a future theme.....

What's worse is it was originally called the Coleman A. Young Detroit People Mover. At least the two subsequent Mayors have been too embarassed to put their names on the POS.

The "Wedway People Mover" was/is (they still have it at WDW) 4-seater gondolas that go around on a track. Not sure about the rights issues as it was renamed to "Tomorrowland Transit Authority" a few years ago.

The monorail is the train on an elevated track.

Lyle Lanley: Well, sir, there's nothing on earth
Like a genuine,
Bona fide,
Electrified,
Six-car
Monorail!
What'd I say?

Ned Flanders: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: What's it called?

Patty+Selma: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: That's right! Monorail!

[crowd chants `Monorail' softly and rhythmically]

Miss Hoover: I hear those things are awfully loud...

Lyle Lanley: It glides as softly as a cloud.

Apu: Is there a chance the track could bend?

Lyle Lanley: Not on your life, my Hindu friend.

Barney: What about us brain-dead slobs?

Lyle Lanley: You'll be given cushy jobs.

Abe: Were you sent here by the devil?

Lyle Lanley: No, good sir, I'm on the level.

Wiggum: The ring came off my pudding can.

Lyle Lanley: Take my pen knife, my good man.

I swear it's Springfield's only choice...
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!

All: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: What's it called?

All: Monorail!

Lyle Lanley: Once again...

All: Monorail!

Marge: But Main Street's still all cracked and broken...

Bart: Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken!

All: Monorail!
Monorail!
Monorail!

[big finish]

Monorail!

Homer: Mono... D'oh!

Headline says '1 hurt' but then the article says 'No one was hurt in the afternoon fire.'

If you read through the whole thing:

One passenger complained of difficulty breathing Tuesday, said IFD Capt. Gregg Harris. Seven other passengers and the attendant were not hurt, and smoke didn't enter the cabin. The People Mover was towed back into to IU/Riley Station, located behind Indiana University Hospital.

That said, sucks it's plagued with problems. Ride it a bunch, maybe you can sue the hospital when it injures you. 😉

<---- can't stop laughing.

i always wondered what they did in Indiana for fun...

Guess I shouldn't talk, though - living in the D.C. metro area. 😛

That's nothing. Detroit has a People Mover built by the former corrupt, and now deceased mayor in 1987. Two years ago, a a famous building was imploded downtown and it demolished part of the People Mover track. The POS is still not fixed! What a colossal waste of money.

Used to use that all the time when going to Wings games. We called it the "Mugger Mover". Kinda fun being packed in with 50 other drunk screaming fans after a game singing TV theme songs at the top of our lungs 🙂.
