No more stock options for new engineers?

I've received offers from two huge computer companies in the Seattle area for a software engineer position. In neither position did they offer stock options, just very large salaries. But back in 2006 I received an offer with stock options, and this was from one of the same companies I'm receiving an offer from now.

Does anyone know if no more stock options are the norm?

Sarbanes-Oxley Act

You aren't imagining things. The Sarbanes-Oxley basically made it uncool for CEO's to continue doling out the stock options "under the shareholders radar".

Once required to have stock options above radar and clearly visible the number of shares and depths of headcount rankings that received them was drastically scaled back.

Welcome to the post Sarbanes-Oxley world.

I've never heard about big companies giving out options, I thought those usually give out RSUs.

Did this change affect the giving out of options within the last year? I did get options in 2006.
