I wonder if the same people mocking people for paying $600 for a X1800XT that allegedly will be replaced by a faster card in Januaury will do the same to people who paid $750 for a 512MB GTX. Somehow, I doubt it.

Why wonder? Just ask them.

Haha, lucky me, i was the FIRST in the queue, like 5 min after it became available. Im now enjoying mine... a LOT :D

This is probably why there's no step up to the 512GTX- everyone and their brother wants it and supply is short.

EVGA probably had 1000s and 1000s of step up requests, no where near enough cards to fill them, so they had to make a business decision and take them out of the "Step Up" loop.

so rollo, what do you think evga will do for those who are already on the step-up queue for the gtx512? Honor the requests, no matter how long it takes? Or give them the chance to replace them in the G71 ends up coming out before enough stock of the GTX512 comes out?

Why don't you ask them directly...

Supply does appear to be short, but I highly doubt "everyone" wants to pay $700+ for a single video card. I certainly wouldn't, even if it was named Rampage and had 3dfx written on the box. :p

If these cards were selling at MSRP ($659) they are the only high end card anyone would want. Alas, the vendors are making up for the short supply with higher price/unit.

Well, apparently there are more people who are willing to pay 700+ dollars for this card than there are actual cards. Tiger Direct got 20 the other day, and all twenty were gone at least by the very next day. No, "everyone" does not want to pay $700+ for a vid card, but fortunately for these vendors, they don't need everyone to pay it because more than enough people are. And they know when they get in another shipment, they will sell off to.

With huge companies like Tiger Direct getting shipments of 20 cards, it's no wonder they sell out so fast. Supply is tiny on these cards.

Hmmm

I don't know about you guys, but I think this is a pretty good deal. Assuming their 7800GTX is $499 MSRP, $349 to have 256GTX SLI is pretty sweet, plus $50 EVGA Bucks, whatever those are.

BTW- I don't think it's as good of a deal as stepping up to a 512GTX, but as an alternative, not bad.

Yeah, I was just thinking about getting another gt since its taking so long. $250 for a new gt sounds pretty good.

Reading eVGA's step-up terms, even though I didn't purchase it from eVGA directly, I'm still eligible to take part of the program. With the price gouging price that I paid, when the G71 comes out and if by chance the msrp is $699, will eVGA allow me to step up for free since my invoice will indicate that I paid more than that or will they make me pay the difference between the msrp of the 512 and the G71?

I guess I'm just trying to find a bright side to overpaying for the 7800GTX 512, that'll carrying over when I step-up. Thanks for reading.

You'll pay the difference between eVGAs prices on the GTX 512 and G71 I think...not what you paid to tiger direct?
