Well, I tried it out last night. I don't know if I like it or not yet. I only played cabin because I heard somewhere that was the easiest level. It seems to have no HUD, which I get is because they were going for "realism" but I just find it annoying. My main complaint about the game is I have no idea WTF I'm suppose to be doing and worse I am apparently not alone. I didn't have to much luck finding a basic guide. The game seems to take the level and then give your group a number of different objectives (different every time?) and you have to complete them to escape. But since they are different each time (I think?) and there's no HUD or mission log often the entire team has no idea why we can't move forward. If they're going to give you no feedback in game they had better come up with a good manual. Frankly I think they should rethink their no information design decision. Even when you complete the final objective there isn't a little in game video to show you escaping, the level just abruptly ends. This is all made more frustrating by the fact you spend a long time dead while other players stumble around...and you're typically dead due to a douchebag FF killing you. There are 8 players on a team and I'm wondering if that is maybe to many.
The graphics seem very good for a mod I think. I think they should have redone the "load in my pants" walking animation for the characters but the zombie animations are nice. Creepy atmosphere and cool zombie models, including the little girl zombie. It'd be nice if they could randomly choose clothes and faces to give a more varied appearance to the group, but that's a minor cosmetic complaint really.
I think I like the combat, although I don't care for the charge up melee system. I like that the zombies grab you and you have to shove them off. I love having to use iron sights and being limited to simple civilian weapons. I love that you can carry and use a flashlight underhanded with handguns and the flashlight is a very useful item in some areas.
Zombies appear to respawn in areas that in my opinion they shouldn't. This feels like a cop out to me.
I'm not sold on it yet, I feel like the combat and graphics are very good but maybe the level and objective system is missing something.
