Obviously Disney wouldn't license a lighter company, but I did find this cute one. And here's one that looks like a whistle. What could POSSIBLY go wrong with that! :D

Did you know little kids like to put things in their mouths?

The frog might not fit, but a regular BIC lighter will.

Having something that starts fires and looks like a fun toy to the average two year old seems like a fairly poor idea on the face of it. Why is a study needed? Do we need a study to know that selling antifreeze in juice bottle shaped containers with colorful cartoon character all over them is a bad idea?
lol. Said on the radio last year:
"How is there a shortage of antifreeze? It's really a basic product. It has methanol to prevent it from freezing and it has blue food coloring to encourage kids to drink it"

Anyway, kids are not stupid. They know they are playing with fire. It's not like kids will play with a gun-lighter then accidentally start a fire because they thought it was a gun. No, they started a fire because they intentionally started a small fire and it got out of control.

Love this from the article above "Last year, children using matches and lighters sparked 158 fires in Massachusetts"

So where is the evidence? What would be funny is if the fire count went up!!!!

Remember when Beavis was blamed for fires?

Outrage not found.

Children can't even buy lighters, so they're either stealing them or getting them from someone else. So the whole "novelty lighters are enticing to children" is stupid because it's illegal to sell them a goddamn lighter anyways. Your analogy sucks and your face sucks, that's what I'm outraged about.

Face palm what? No responsible person is selling children lighters, unless you consider 16 year olds children, then you might be right(i don't consider 16 year olds children).

Adults buy them. Leave them around the house, little kids think they're a toy, play with it, start fire.................................

We played with lighters all the time, turning the setting up to "Richard Pryer". Adults need to lighten up.

So it's the responsibility of the government to prevent this why? If it's because the government has to pay for the damage, then get the parents to pay for it. Can't pay for it? Take out an insurance policy.

Called public safety. That fire could be in a multi-family, apt complex, etc. Yeah, insurance is going to really help the elderly person sleeping on the other side of the wall.

That's the same thing as banning gun sales because of concerns over murders committed with guns. Or is it OK with lighters because they don't have any parts of the Constitution protecting them?

EDIT: *shrug*

Think of the children. Blah, what about adults? There are more of us and we have rights too.. No? We need to lock all children in rubber rooms till they hit 18 to protect the adults.

If people raised their children properly they wouldnt have to worry about their kids.
I guess passing a law is easier than raising your kids properly.

I loved candy cigarettes when I was kid. Interestingly, I have never smoked a real cigarette in my life and can't even stand the sight of them.

Exactly the same for me, I loved those fucking things, and a real cigarette absolutely repulses me. Coincidently, I'd gone on many a murderous video game rampage during my youth and, as it turns out, have yet to murder a single person in real life.

Whatever you do, DON'T hold parents responsible for allowing their kids to play with lighters! Let me tell you, as a kid, whether the lighter looked like a candy cane or a regular plastic BIC lighter, you wanted to mess with it because fire was cool. Of course, our parents didn't leave them lying around. If they did and you were caught with one, you were in trouble for it, or at least you should have been :p
