No more MOOLAH from Pointclick!

Pointclick is sinking I got this E-Mail today:

We are writing today to announce the latest changes at PointClick. As you have noticed, our shopping model has been changing. As of October 2nd, it will change into its final form. We hope you will find the new approach inviting and interesting. We have worked to improve the look and feel of the site, and the new approach to rewards will allow us to give you the opportunity to profit more than before. The changes you will notice next week will include the following:

Beginning October 2, you will be earning POINTS for surfing and shopping. You will no longer be offered cash for surfing, nor will stores carry percentage discounts. We will no doubt still offer cash incentives from time to time, but generally points will be what you earn. The points you earn will automatically enter you into sweepstakes where you can win cash and prizes. The more you surf and shop, the better your chances are of being a winner. PointClick will announce daily, monthly, and quarterly winners. (This is not like a lottery, where there may be no winner. Every sweepstakes has a winner.)

In October you will have the opportunity to win one of 60 BIG SCREEN TV's and $50,000 in cash. In addition, you'll be entered automatically in the quarterly drawing for $100,000, which will be awarded on December 31, 2000. Any money you currently have in your account will be available for you to spend as you shop through December 31, 2000. You still will be able to save 5% on specified sites through September 29. So if you've been waiting to make a purchase and you want to save an extra 5%--now is the time! You've asked for a larger selection of sites to shop. We've added 150 new brand name sites in the last 60 days and continue to add sites daily. If availability of product is important to you, our site has just improved dramatically.

It just pisses me off that they said through the 29th and then took the site down on the 29th so it really wasn't as long as they said. I was hoping to get some shopping done today with the ~$175 that I have saved up and use the 5% discount but no more discount now.

I got my July check.. guess I won't be seing my August one which was about 40 bucks, since I got the July one last week. Oh well, can't complain about free money.

I have a check for $44 from August, still pending with Pointclick. I havent received any email from them, but reading the new rules it seems that I am not going to get any money from them (I can use it for "shopping through their site" now). Can someone else confirm or deny this?

I called yesterday and was told that my pending check for August purchases would be sent next week. I guess only time will tell if I was given a line or the straight scoop. As for this being the end for PC... I think this is more a new beginning. The end was really back when it started and people could accumulate like $75 a day in click credits. I'm sorry, but that model was doomed from the start. The marketplace has started to realize they can't be in business for any length of time by giving it all away. This is evidenced by Buy & Onvia & others raising prices.

FWIW, I was also told that the original founder of PC is no longer in a control position. Presumably this was a condition of the latest financing round.

Anyway, I'll take a free bigscreen TV or whatever else they wanna give away. And the fewer of you getting drawing credits, the better for me.

BigZ, What phone number did you use to contact PointClick? I haven't gotten mt July or August Check and now they cancelled my account. Won't respond to my e-mails...
