I noticed that the Dell 9100 was removed from Dell Canada eariler this week and now from the US site as well. Did they phase it out to push the XPS or is it being replaced by another middle of the line gaming laptop? The price different between 9100 and XPS is quite significant so it would be pretty dumb to remove it completely no?

There are rumors that a replacement for the 9100 will be announced in November. Supposedly, the XPS will stay on sale a bit longer, but will also be replaced with a new model in a few months.

Dell notebook gets set for big-screen debut

Dell is getting ready to launch a big-screen version of its Inspiron notebook.

The PC maker will soon give buyers the choice of a 17-inch display with the laptop, company executives said in an interview this week at Dell's headquarters.

Though Dell did not give details on the upcoming notebook, it's likely to be an Inspiron 9000-series machine that will hit shelves in time for the holiday season. It's likely to replace the Inspiron 9100, which Dell stopped selling earlier this week.

Doesn't have to.

Apples 17" is only 6.9lbs....

But alas you are right, dells 9200 will probably have big bang for the buck, but get 20 minutes of battery life and weight 13.78etc pounds...

I cant see it being thicker without becoming a desktop pc, everyone I speak to already asks my why I lug around such a big laptop.

I just hope that it doesn't mean that Dell won't produce the mobility 9800 card and replace it with a PCI express or something else. Most of the 9100 and XPS's on the market have a 9700 so I hope Dell will keep producing the 9800 when we want to upgrade.

Looks like you're wrong here. Dell claims it weighs only 7.7 pounds and gets almost 5 hours of battery life. A review from PC Magazine has confirmed this.
