While Christensen doesn't oppose the campaign to enact state and federal bans on gay marriage, he worries it's distracting from immediate threats to marriage's place in society.

"If those initiatives are part of a broader effort to reaffirm lifetime fidelity in marriage, they're worthwhile," he said. "If they're isolated ? if we don't address cohabitation and casual divorce and deliberate childlessness ? then I think they're futile and will be brushed aside."

Heh, that's the secret of any group of fascists. First they blather about how everyone except for a small minority shares their views. Then they rant about how the actions of that tiny minority are going to destroy the entire society unless they are stopped. Even in a democracy, this tends to work because if "everybody" wants something a certain way, that's democracy, right?

Christenson mentions divorce but says nothing about the wholesale cheating going on. Cheating on your spouse is a comfortable lifestyle for many Americans. Many traditional men who oppose gay marriage are out fusking their brains out with every dolly they can dongle.

Not wanting to have children has many different problems.

You might want to mention that in the USA we beleive in freedom. Some people choose not to have children and maybe that is fine. At least they will not give birth to any more people who think like them.

One problem is a lot of people want to change their mind after they are 40 and then they see the error of their ways when they can no longer give birth. There is a time and a season for all things; just dont let it pass you by. Until you hold your own child in your arms, you can not truly understand how sacred a life is and how precious a gift it is. Whether you beleive it comes from nature, science or God you will feel much the same way.

honestly why anyone would want to get married and then not have children is beyond me...if I had know that I would never want to have children then there would be no point in getting married....then again that is only my perspective.

Like I said anti, it is only my personal take on it..but I know that if I did not want to have children there is no way I would want to get married...the legal and personal reasons just are not worth it IMHO...you can love someone just as much being "single" as you can if you "marry" them however if feelings change then there is no legal binding holding you together making a seperation much easier and allowing for freedom.

LOL if I were impotent and or sterile then I most certainly wouldn't want to be married 🙂...

Now if living with someone were still looked down upon I could see the argument, but in todays society (at least in the urban areas) this doesn't carry the negative stigma it once did.

Hmm, I haven't met many women who openly express their desire to NOT have children, many say they don't like the aspect of pain but they all say that someday they do desire to reproduce.

Lol, my wife said that constantly before we got married, however now she talks off and on about how she wants to have a child or two before she is 33...I wonder how old your girlfriend is and or how long you have been dating? also I wouldn't be surprised if her attitude changes later in life...my wife was adamant about not having children and then right after we were married...bam, change of tune.
