if they are barred from showing thier flagship titles this can seriously hurt thier business and exposure.

you sure just dont get it..
here here for a communist america!
lets just hand over all our rights.

Actually, I do get it. American's are way too uptight about sexuality, and that is what makes "booth babes" a big attraction at events like this (and in video games). I actually wish people would relax their distorted view of sexuality a little, then situations like this would be a non-issue.

Regardless, it has nothing to do with our "rights" or communism.

again its NOT about the boothbabes...
its about not being able to show ANY title that they consider mature due to sexuality or even partial nudity.

do you have any idea how many games are affected by this?
pretty much 3/4 of the upcoming 360 games could be blackballed for partial nudity or adult themes...

I get a kick out of nerds who are so excited to be beside a woman that they rush alongside them and have their picture taken with them like they are some celebrity or something. lol.

I totally think this is a great thing.. I've been to E3 several times and as much as I'm a guy who likes to see scantily clad ladies, I think that their presence limits the ability of the powerful media that is gaming to become considered more mainstream. If we lure gamers with big boobs and really low-cut or revealing outfits rather than quality programming, intelligent design, and good efforts at creating creative, unique games, not only will games suffer at the lower expectations of players, but it will continue to be marginalized as a geek thing. It's not a geek thing - it's an everyone thing, just as much as going to the movies or playing team sports.

I think that E3 should be less of a media circus and more of a legitimate event whereby industry professionals strut their stuff and give the media an opportunity to see what's coming and what to be excited about. It's a professional event for a reason - if you wanna mix with the public, go to CES.

Did you guys fail to read the bottom part of the article?

"While there going to be plenty of whining from people who only go for the booth babes, Sex & Games points out the more alarming problem: this will force "adult games or games with partial nudity" off the show floor. It is a private event, but if companies are paying a premium to be there, should they have more say in what is considered OK on the show floor?"

This could and would include any game DEEMED BY THEM! as racy....or adult..
the industry already considers
GTA
DOA
God of War
and many other titles as adult becasue of harmless amounts of partial nudity or adult themes..
what this little tidbit says is THEY CANNOT SHOW ANY TITLES THAT THEY DEEM TO BE INAPPROPRIATE...
thats a huge violation of not only our rights.. but also the game publishers as well..
the way this is written means they cannot display something as harmless as DOA4 in public as it contains partial nudity...

this goes for countless games WE ADULTS PLAY....
this is not just an industry for children the boom is coming from adult games than it is from kiddie titles...
this dampers your favorite game studios from showing thier products as well as getting exposure to possible investers and contributers as well as consumers.

this IS A BAD THING...
its a violation of our rights...

most of you didnt read anything past the Booth babes part of the post..
there is way more to this post...

I think you are blowing this issue WAY out of proportion. The most important being the following snippet:

It is a private event

Nobody's rights are being violated.

It is also the biggest show of the year for software game devs...
if they are barred from showing thier flagship titles this can seriously hurt thier business and exposure.

you sure just dont get it..

roffle, there is no "right" to see scantly clad women known as "booth babes" at a software/gaming convention.

I'm in full agreement with you. E3 is a business show, the gawkers from the public need to go, along with the items that are attracting them to come and/or pandering to them while they are there, which means things like the booth babes and the excessive swag need to go.

I'm boycotting all games that aren't promoted by members of the BBG of A.

I dont think they REALLY want to get rid of the public. E3 is about spreading your new games as far and wide as possible. They know as well as we do that word of mouth amongst gamers hardcore enough to travel all the way to LA is going to go a long way.

E3 is what is is because there is nothing else like it. It is like 3 days where the outside world ceases to exist for those lucky enough to be there. 3 days where the developers themselves can get direct feedback from the people actually playing their games. It is an incredible spectacle the likes of which Ive never really seen anywhere else. Pictures and video do not even come remotely close to doing it justice. You have to experience it firsthand.

Take away the public, and you take away the spectacle. Video games are about HAVING FUN, and pretty much nothing else. Taking the fun factor out of the biggest expo gaming has would be a terrible misstep.

Big booths, especially Nintendo's and Sony's, have women who are dressed in uniform and decent attire. They look nice and professional.

It's the smaller booths like the accessory companies and the startup software firms who display women to attract gamers. Larger software companies on the other side (West Hall) may be guilty of the same "offense".

Either way, I don't mind because I'd go there to play games, enter contests, and pickup freebee's. It's suppose to be a show for +18 and industry types.

Ya, I have to admit, the nintendo girls were pretty classy. There were a few snooty b*tches, but Id be pretty snooty too if I had to endure 3 days of 50 slathering geeks ogling them at once for 8 hours straight.
