I think thats not correct. what do you mean by 1 generation. 12 months or 24 months. Either way with a rumoured Feb/Mar 2015 release for Fiji XT, AMD are 5 - 6 months behind.

I don't see them coming out Feb/Mar 2015 at all. Last I saw/heard in their business reports, they were looking at 2nd half 2015 release, so Jul-Aug at the earliest.

You want AMD to reduce prices on R9 290X / R9 290 when their performance in recent games has been very good and that has even affected the avg perf gap with GTX 980. R9 290X is now faster than GTX 970, stock for stock at 1440p.

It is fine that the R9 290X is faster at stock than a GTX 970, but it is also $50-60 more expensive, a LOT louder, and more power hungry.

You mean $300?

Probably. Cheapest GTX980 was just under 600, cheapest 290X is just over 300. Score a sale, and the 290X is easily 300 dollars cheaper than a GTX 980 and 90% as fast.

Its never been Jul-Aug. We wouldn't be seeing leaked benches every few days if the parts were still 10 months out.

A quick Google for Fiji/Bermuda/Radeon 300 series release date is universally February.

A 290X is actually cheaper than a GTX 970 most of the time, or comparably priced. It is, however, louder and definitely more power hungry. Two things people looking to buy top end video cards usually don't list on their major wants.

I'm not really sure why so many people need to spread misleading and inaccurate FUD. You do realize that Nvidia being the sole player in the GPU market is a VERY bad thing, right? We already know how Nvidia behaves when they have no competition.

AMD looks to have dropped the ball for 1H of 2015 for GE. NV is getting MGS V, Batman AK, Project CARS, Witcher 3. AMD is falling asleep at the wheel since not only are they 1 generation behind in GPU architecture, but all these GW titles have a strong shot at crippling AMD gaming performance/or heavily favoring NV (as we've seen with MGS already). Furthermore, without a strong game bundle and lack of discounts on 290 cards, they will be dead in the water. Without a solid game bundle, imo AMD needs to drop 290 to $239 MSRP and 290X to $269. I mean if AMD knew they wouldn't release 300 series for 1.5 years since 290X's launch, they should have released a 10-15% refresh as a stop-gap. Now it doesn't look like 300 series is even close to launch.

U forget to mention about Evolve and Dying light.

AMD has not made any public statements on exact timelines. But given the past history between both these GPU vendors I don''t see a greater than 6 month time gap between R9 380X (Fiji XT) and GTX 980. Even if you consider the biggest gaps between Nvidia and ATI/AMD ever, the R9 290X was 5 months behind GTX 780 and 8 months behind GTX Titan and HD 2900 XT was 6 months behind the 8800 GTX. I would say the launch window is Feb (best case) and May (worst case). btw do you seriously think AMD will not have a reply for GTX 980 for close to a year. I don't think so. :)

definitely not more expensive. similar price range with the cheapest models around USD 310 - 330 and the average around USD 350 - 360.

louder is also not a given as it depends on the cooler. the TriX 290X is slightly above the GTX 970 Gaming in noise levels but still very much at comparable levels.

as for power hungry there is no getting around that. its a fact that will remain a significant advantage for Nvidia till R9 380X launches.

You mean $300?

I was just showing that they are basically $200 cheaper and in the 90% performance range (290x vs. 980). Idk what he was trying to claim with his statement, especially with a one liner and no data.
