No more adobe pdf reader, from now on it is foxit

At home i did not use adobe pdf reader anymore for at least a year or so, i am used to foxit pdf reader.

But at work i still used the adobe pdf reader. So i went to the installed programs menu in control panel and found out i had several versions of adobe flash player installed as well. I removed them all except for the latest version. Even a special flash active x version.

The reason i removed adobe pdf reader was because when i clicked on a pdf, nothing would happen on the screen but several instances of acrobat.exe would get opened. Sometimes my pc got real slow and i opened the task manager to find out i had 12 acrobat.exe running without a single pdf opened. My colleague had recently updated the adobe reader and he was not happy with it either. Every time he would open a pdf he had to wait for a few seconds because some popup showing new features of adobe pdf reader would come to front and steal the focus and would not go away until after a few seconds. That and the ever existing tools/something panel/menu on the right side of the screen. It can be removed but it starts every time fully open , decreasing the usable view screen.

Today i had enough of adobe hassle on my pc and de-installed the adobe pdf reader and installed foxit pdf reader. I did however had to de-install foxit cloud afterwards because i do not want or need it but that is for now a minor issue to deal with.

I actually had the total opposite experience. I moved to foxit a long time ago until I started running into all kinds of issues with it locking up or acting like a total hog with large PDFs. Went back to using Adobe Reader and haven't had a hiccup since.

Been using Foxit for some years. My biggest beef with Adobe Reader is the persistent entreaties to upgrade. Bah.

I have not used it in a long time.

Downside is some websites insist that you have it installed, it's ridiculous. My banking site did a change and I can't even read messages any more because it requires I have Adobe reader installed to even display the text of a message. Completely retarded design. I'm on Linux so I could not install it even if I wanted to. Webmasters have to stop designing stuff to only work on 1 platform.

Never had a problem with Foxit installing other things other than Foxit Cloud.

Ditto. I've just installed the latest version, and nothing untoward occurred during the installation process or afterwards. It asked me one opt-out question regarding whether I wanted a trial version of another Foxit product, that was it. My other beef with Foxit Reader is the ribbon and the half-a-million visible options when all the average user needs the vast majority of the time is about 5. The ribbon can be minimised but then you're only left with the quick access toolbar, which isn't that user-friendly for novices.

I like SumatraPDF but it doesn't play with with some printers for some reason. Sometimes there are missing letters in the text or sometimes the letters are all squashed together. It's fine with my printer though.

These days I've gone back to installing Adobe Reader on customers' computers (as much as I feel like I'm saying "it gives you lice but at least it handles PDFs properly and the UI isn't over-complicated"). I make some changes to its configuration in an attempt to secure it, though it irritates me that Adobe removed the browser integration options from the UI.

I downloaded Foxit from the official site. Here are the Virus Total scan results.

I also scanned the file locally with Emsisoft anti-malware, MalwareBytes and Hitman Pro with no hits.

Learn more about Open Candy including how to unistall or avoid it when running an .exe. http://opencandy.com/faqs/

That is all referencing the time of Feb 2014, well in the past.

I don't know how the install file was distributed back then, I do know that for a while, both cnet & sorceforge were bundling Conduit with their custom downloader software for any download hosted with them. Perhaps Foxit used to be downloadable there?

In other words, your alarmist scare is very much outdated.

When a company bundles malware into their installer, even if it was some time back, I lose all trust for them, especially that there is Myriad of other free good options.

It's your choice what you use on your system.

Another excellent free option is Nitro reader.

When you want more viewing area :
When you press CTRL-H, the ribbon alike interface in foxit pdf reader disappears.
Or press F11 for full screen view. Works also for browsers.

I never do an automatic install for any software when an custom option is available.
Custom option allows you to see what is installed.
Everything i do not want i uncheck and install foxit pdf reader only.
I did not see any toolbar software.

Or don't use installers. When only installers are available, extract them instead. When not possible, install to a sandbox and recover the necessary files.

Usually just use the builtin reader in FF. If I really need to edit or anything like that i'll use adobe on another machine.

Reading the recent news and the urgent request to update to 39.0.3 because of a vulnerability with the pdf reader. I rather prefer to have the pdf reader removed. And have it as a separate addon that i can disable when desired. The whole problem with browser is these days that they have to much functionality standard on board. I prefer that browser makers keep it simple and use the add on (aka plug in) feature to extend the browser functionality. This way they can focus more on having a secure browser.

Sumatra FTW! I installed Foxit for a bit after having enough of Adobe. Then decided to try Sumatra and it's been that ever since. So light, so fast and so simple. Exactly how I wanted a PDF reader.

I did the exact same thing. I ran Foxit for a year or so, and then decided to explore other PDF readers when foxit game me some problems (I honestly don't remember what it was) and found Sumatra so fast and easy that I have stuck with it ever since.

Do either Sumatra or Foxit readers allow you to edit PDF files?
