No Monitor Output after Sleep Mode

Hello all,

I just ran into an issue on my PC and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. My PC was working perfectly fine for the last 6 months with no changes to hardware or software. My normal routine is to use the computer for a while and then put it in Sleep Mode when I am finished using it and then hit the space bar to wake it up again when I want to re-use it (to save electricity). When I got home today, I pressed the space bar to wake the computer and the tower turned on (all fans, lights, HDD, etc. woke up), but my monitor remained in its Sleep Mode and acted as though it received no signal. I am using a 9800GT video card with an HP 2711x monitor using DVI. I tried using a spare video card (7900GT) I had lying around but I'm not certain that it is in working condition and installing it did not resolve the issue. I'm not quite sure what it could be and hoping someone might be able to provide some advice.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the AnandTech forums... bumping your thread to see if we can get some assistance here.

Better yet (I think) -- I'll move this to Computer Help...

Do you have a spare DVI cable to test with (or VGA if the screen and card have the ports for it)? Have you done any recent updating to your computer, specifically video drivers?
Other than the monitor not waking up, does the computer appear to be waking up any differently than normal (eg fans running at a different speed, different hard drive activity)?
What sleep mode are you using (eg S1, S3)?

Ketchup: Thank you for your response. As it turns out, your initial thoughts would have solved the issue if I had gotten it before my massive troubleshooting last night. I moved my computer and plugged it into the DVI->HDMI cable that is connected to my desktop connected to my TV and that showed no issues with the PC-in-question. I then unplugged the HDMI from my TV and plugged it into the 2711x and that also worked perfectly. I then realized that the only other option would be that the DVI cable went faulty. Not having time to go get a new cable, I just rehooked everything up and, lo and behold, everything worked again without any actual changes. I'm sure the cable is suspect and will need to be replaced in the near future.

Thank you for your response and help. We can close this thread now.

Great! Glad it's working. The threads in here generally remain open, so that others with a similar issue might find it (whether in the forums or a Google search) and ind something that helps them.
