I usually put on my headphones to drown out sound that I don't want to hear (such as dad's Ian and Sylvia LP that he's playing right now). It doesn't work very well, as my headphones are cheap Sony ones that are open, so outside sound gets in all too well. It makes matters worse that my parents think that I should be content and even happy to listen to the same stuff that they listen to. They get pissed when I put on my headphones to listen to something else when they play some of their old records. :disgust:
