RIP 1 BMW e46 33Ci Convertible. l barely knew ye.

I'm fine. Some kind electrical fire started behind the glove compartment, and within 10 minutes the entire car was under 15' flames. Still feeling a mixture of sadness, embarrassment (a local news crew actually filmed the fire  ), relief this didn't happen while it was parked in our garage, and worry about what the insurance company will say.

Signed,

Makes me begin to think about what crap I carry around in my car and how long it would take to rescue the things I care about.

I would guess he has comp/collision so it should be covered, especially since it was a random fire and not his fault.

I would be prepared to do some heavy negotiating. They need to give him retail replacement cost, I would make them match the local BMW dealerships.

My insurance guy is pretty good. It looks like they have a replacement cost plan. Expecting a call in a bit.

That sucks man...

Any idea what caused it? Do you have any aftermarket electronic devices installed in the car?

Wow, sorry. Didn't you just buy that from the Chicago area last year or am I thinking of someone else on these forums?

Before anyone says it, NO: THAT WON'T BUFF OUT.

Sorry you had to go through this. I hope your insurance company doesn't screw you too hard. Best of luck....

Yes :( Thanks for remembering. I spent 8 months trying to find this exact car with the Sports package on it.

As I remember, I warned you that you shouldn't get that car because it was going to erupt in flames one day. Oh wait no I didn't.

It definitely could have been worse...thank GOD no one was hurt, it wasn't parked in your garage at the time, etc.

On the bright side, you get to do the painful car search again :D. Another Bimmer, or not really thinking about it yet?

if either of my fun cars burnt up, I don't know if I would call myself "unlucky" unless I got burnt in when it went up.

it's just a car.. find another. sometimes the best part (and maybe to some the worst) is the hunt for the right one
