If you have a regular checking account and no direct deposit most banks charge you a monthly service fee. Well after talking with a rep inside a branch of Bank of America, I have found out that any kind of outside transactions that are automatically deposited into your account are considered as direct deposit. I found this out because I had a deposit made to my account from an item I sold on Amazon.

My idea: using paypal make one small amount transaction depositing money into your checking account each month. This will then make the bank think that you have a direct deposit setup. From what the rep said the amount deposited doesn't matter just as long as their system sees the transaction.

I don?t know how useful this will be to most people here since most companies offer direct deposit. Also another way of waving the fees is having your account be linked to some one you have a relationship with (IE family), just make sure that they have required minimum amount of cash in their account.

Or just get an account at a bank that doesn't have stupid requirements.

Not really a hot deal, should be moved.
