I used to live on these forums reading all your awesome threads about life, love and random road head (thanks ZANE, glad I stopped by today)

But lately I've been living on Reddit.

Anyone else been lured away from Anandtech by the Reddit Machine?

I avoid Reddit. It really doesn't interest me much...I think I see it as too weird and specialized. Like 4chan.

I've been using this style of forum since 'Ultimate Bulletin Board' first came out. Drifted from place to place. Been turned off of AT from time to time. But...it's okay here...I only hate some of you...

Not a fan of Reddit. The format is hard (for me) to follow and like someone else said, way too specialized. Pretty much any thread on there turns into a bitchfest and makes socializing on the internet not fun. I stick to this and real-world conversation.

I hate the people at reddit or rather the general ideals the majority hold over there. Unfortunately sometimes I feel like a few individuals here mirror the general reddit consensus which kind of bothers me but I refuse to swap.

Reddit is no more fun than funnyjunk or failblog, their "community experience" sucks donkey balls... You are a lurker anyways, you wont understand, good riddance.

I wish I could find a good, old-fashioned BBS community. Chat. Message. Mess around on a few doors. Until I find that, AT it is.

I use ATOT to post the best of Reddit, that way it's filtered :)

ugh, I really don't like reddit, though I do end up reading the AMA threads sometimes. I always feel dirty afterward though.

What are those ideals?

I do go over to reddit more often than atot/atpn nowadays. It's nice to have very specialized subreddits like the raspberry pi subreddit or the android subreddit.

Ya'll are doing it wrong.

You've got to find a subreddit you're interested in; the front page isn't much more than 13 year-olds circlejerking.

Some of my favorites are r/Android, r/nottheonion, r/RBI, r/JusticePorn, r/TrueAtheism, and r/nosleep.

I LOVED BBS in High School (94-96).

Good times and downloading at 28.8 and 56k was amazeballs.

I remember our first 2400 baud modem. When we finally got 28.8k it was fucking amazing. that was around the same time for me too. I absolutely loved it...even went for a few of the gatherings locally. Odd people on the BBSs... I remember dialing the same numbers over and over waiting for a line to open up. We had a local BBS that had at one point 8 phone lines. It was amazing to chat with 7 other people at the same goddamn time.

I used Telix. ZMODEM was the shit.

Sometimes I'll scan the AMAs but that's it. From the other few times I've read comments there, seems like it's populated by know-it-all douchebags who love to argue. Some of that here but not as bad; can't stand that armchair expert garbage.

Yeah, same here. Went from 2400 bps to 14400 -- seeing the whole page of the BBS come up at once was amazing, because at 2400 you just get one line at a time. :D

Most phone lines any BBS around me had was just 2.

I read that the Demographic of a Redditor is:
Under 25
Male
Lives at Home
Makes under $35K a year

Reddit is entertaining but very little substance. I lurk there and post here.
