No Likey Spyware :|

Just curious mods, I saw the other thread about the annoying and dishonest 'strobe' ad and I was pleased to see Anand wrote to them requesting removal.

Spyware is something equally perturbing to me... in this case I'm talking about cookies which advertisers on AT forums have used ever since I've been a member (they are spyware cookies according to ad-watch and ad-aware at least).

Guess my questions are:

1. If I subscribed, would the spyware be gone?
2. Does Anand have a stance on spyware/privacy-invasive cookies?

Thanks for your attention.

1: Yes
2: Spyware is different from cookies that go with ads. While I do not think it would be morally right to block the ads, if you have a problem with the cookies, you should check into the options that are available in Internet Explorer 6 for the management of such things. Check out the options in "Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Advanced > Override automatic cookie handling > Third-party cookies"

As there are literally thousands of ads in some of these rotated external parties, we have no control over it. If something is really out of line then anand requests it be removed. Cookies and advertisers go hand in hand in almost any ad driven website. Subscribing will remove this "concern" as there are no banner ads on the subscriber network.

Hope that helps.
