I think lego themselves now sell mass orders of blocks, I'm sure they have some kind of kit that comes with an assorted amount of the basic building blocks.

You could also (dare I mention it) try ebay, although you might want to arrange pick up before you bid on anything because those things can get heavy in masses.
 
Of course, he has a Linux book on the table in the last pic of the first link. 😀
