Built new system:
Abit ip35, E2180, Enzotech Ultra-X, GSkill 2X2GB ddr2-800 1.8v,Antec Earthwatts 500, WD 160GB SATAII and WD 500GB SATAII.

Installed BING per Terabyte instructions, and created partitions. Used a slipstreamed disc I made where I added sp2 to the sp1 original disc to install windows xp pro to the 160GB hdd. I did not have the 500GB hooked up at this point.

Installed intel inf files, not sure if from abit cd or other d'load. Rebooted. Installed matrox drivers and viewsonic drivers for my pci g450 dual head vid card. Rebooted.

Installed Marvell lan drivers from abit site. Failed install. Installed Marvell lan drivers from abit cd, ok. Rebooted.

Installed Realtek drivers from abit cd. Rebooted.

In device manager, there are 4 yellow exclamation marks on pcie ports. Under network adapters, only firewire, no lan. Bummer.

Used BING to delete xp partitoin, remake xp partition, format, and then reinsatalled xp. Used abit cd to install inf files, rebooted. Installed my matrox/viewsonic drivers.

Used abit cd to install the marvell lan drivers and then, after reboot, the realtek drivers, Rebooted.

Opened device manager, same problem.

Flashed bios to V14, when it restarted, powered off, cleared cmos with jumper, waited, replaced jumper and restarted. Entered into bios and loaded the optimized stuff, rebooted, and back into bios to reset fan eq, boot order, etc. Lan is enabled.

Back to device manager, same situation. Grrr!

Please help with what to do now. Should I try the marvell drivers from the abit drive and see if they will install under bios v14? Should I reinstall xp again, but this time install drivers in a different order? And which drivers, abit cd, abit site, others?

I really wanted to spend what little Christmas free time I have on o'clocking the 2180. Never counted on these problems installing xp, etc.

Please Santa, help me get my computer up and running for Christmas.

Thanks in advance for everybody's help. I learned a lot and got a lot of good information from these forums, just need a little more. Merry Christmas to all, Chris.

Make sure that all the Devices related to the Intel Inf file are corretly installed.

Every time before you try check the Device Manger and Uninstall the Ghosts (Yellow Exc. mark).

I have IP-35 with 2180. and the I installed the LAN drivers from Abit site.

Read careful since the XP drivers and vista are sparate dfiles.

Reboot and check the LAN installation before you install the Realtek.

Thanks for the response.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge here, but how do I know what devices the intel inf files are for so I can check their install?

You say to uninstall the ghosts, yellow!points. Do I understand then that the lan drivers take care of the important entries and what they do not take care of is not necessary and gets the yellow exclamation mark? Or, the driver set loads a set of drivers and what is not applicable, shows up with a yellow exclamation mark? Either way, the solution is to just uninstall those entries?

Lastly, your instruction to reboot and check the lan installation before installing the realtek drivers. I have already installed the realtek drivers. Easy way to uninstall them? Should I go thru the delete windows partition, remake, format and reinstall xp, install inf files, then reboot to get fresh installation to install other drivers?

If so, after the inf files, should I install the matrox/viewsonic stuff, and then the lan drivers, or install the lan drivers, reboot go into device manager, and uninstall the entries with yellow exclamation marks, reboot and then install video stuff, reboot and install the realtek drivers?

Thanks for your patience, I really do appreciate it and am trying to "get" this, Chris.

JackMDS,

I went into device manager and uninstalled the 4 items with the yellow exclamation marks, closed out and restarted.

Went back to device manager and there they were back again, and still no lan adapter.

Intel chipset driver says it is recommended to install before other drivers. Should I try again with newer version from abit web site?

Should I use add/remove to remove the realtek and marvell drivers, reboot, and try another marvel driver set?

Thanks, Chris.

If you 4 item then there is another 3 items beside the NIC that are not installed correctly.

I usually preparing all the needed drivers on a USB Flash Drive (or burn them into CD).

1. First thing is to install the Intel INF because it installs the core part of the chipset, and other components depends on it.

Then it is a matter of preference.

I go with Display, LAN, Audio, and any thing else.
