No keyboard or mouse.....HELP!

Got my new Gainward GeForce2 Ti and was going to install it. First thing I did was uninstall the old driver for the Asus V3400TNT/TV (TNT1) that it was replacing (version 5.33). Next shut down machine, installed the card and started up to install the new driver. No response from the keyboard and mouse! I'm dual booting Win2K and XP.....2k was the one that got nuked, but XP is ok. 2k is also the one I uninstalled the old driver in. I guess the uninstall got some drivers for the keyboard and mouse, but now I can't get back into it to replace them. Is there certain DLL's that I need to check for and put back into the WINNT\system32 folder? Any other suggestions short of reinstalling Win2k? Can someone tell me what the name of the Microsoft DLL's are that run keyboard and mouse functions so that I can check to see if they are there?

Thanks a bunch

AFAIK the keyboard and mouse are usually built into some of the lowest forms of dlls. It might be kernel32.dll even.

Can you boot using a boot disk and the keyboard and mouse work? If this is the case, then you know that it's a windows problem. If it doesn't work when booting with a disk you know your bios probably is damaged.

Assuming that it is windows, I might check for the i8042.sys file. However I can't remember if the 8042 is used for PCI interrupts or PS2 Interupts. That would be the root of the problem at the lowest level. If you use USB keyboard and mouse, check for the 8023 file. Don't know the exact name but it should be in /winnt/system32/drivers/

As for DLL's the next logical level - check for input.dll -> I think that's the name, but can't remember. Next check the drivers for the actual keyboard... keyboard.sys and keyboard.drv ... and for the mouse mouse.drv

I think that this is a complete list of all files that are associated with mouse/keyboard io - but there may be more.

If the answers here don't suffice, I would recommend posting in the operating system forum.

If you can't use your keyboard/mouse when booting with a disk, I would bet that it's a hardware problem. Do you know about ESD (electro static discharge)? I assume you do, so I would check and make sure that the keyboard/mouse is working on another computer. If so - it could be the 8042 or 8023 chips that aren't...

Okay, I think this should pretty much cover everything - but I may be wrong and you might need to do a reinstall.
