No internet connectivity

Did an upgrade from Windows ME to XP home. Everything OK except the internet connectivity is gone.

The ISP is Adelphia cable with a TERAYON cable modem. The cable from the modem is an ethernet cable plugged in to a USB adapter which plugs into a USB port on the back of the computer.

Looking into device manager I see an eclamation mark on USB device where it says the drivers for this device are not installed.

I take it that the lack of internet connectivity is due to the lack of drivers for this "USB device" since the cable modem is ultimately connected to the computer through a USB port.

The question is...where do I get the drivers and how do I install them?

Drivers are usually available at the manufacturer of the adapter Web Side.

Uninstall the ?Ghost? in the Device manager and reboot the computer when it boots it would prompt to install the Driver.

P.S. USB Modems are pain in the neck when it comes to Network. If you can afford it (on sale you might find it for about $40) get an External Ethernet Modem and use a regular Ethernet card.

Thanks jack. The Ethernet to USB adapter is a Linksys USB10T. They have the XP drivers on their website. I'll have to DL them and get them to the guy manually because he has no internet.

I also found out that the cable modem can be wired directly with a USB cable. It's a Terayon ECM 210. Why they didn't do this in the first place I dunno. When he plugged it direct and turned the machine on of course the found new hardware window came up. And of course he din't have the driver....so I'll see if I can find that.

OTOH, is there a chance either of these drivers are on the Windows XP upgrade disk but didn't get installed during the upgrade?

Also I recommended he just hook it up through a NIC. Funny thing is that his device manager>network adapter entry says he has a 10 mbps NIC but he can't find the socket on the back of the computer. Right next to the phone jack there is a GREEN plate with the outline of a RJ socket. Maybe the socket is under that?

It's about a 5 year old gateway.

I doubt, WinXP was released in 2001. Most of Consumer Network Gizmos are newer.
