No internet access after updates

Installed microsoft's XP updates, and now I have no access to the 'net.

ping:
127.0.0.1 works
192.168.1.1 works
google.com fails
8.8.8.8 fails
72.14.204.99 fails
(destination host unreachable.)

I re-installed NIC drivers.
I set my DNS to 8.8.8.8, still didn't help.

What the heck?

(This is a double post, last was in wrong category - sorry.)

No, it works on my other partition - W7, just fine.

It doesn't matter, I reformatted .. but now my blu-ray is screwed up.

Double partition in the 21st century.

Reformat instead of fixing the Network.

The "Bulldozer" approach to dealing with computers.

End-Users Routers are little, limited, and not very smart computers.

They can work OK with one computer, and might loose their bearing with the other.

Booting it up cleans and it resets their limited memory, and provides a clean start.
