Just saw this on the DJ Newswire...
"AMD's Athlon 64 has an advantage over other 64-bit chips, such as Intel's Itanium line for servers and workstations. It can also efficiently handle today's 32-bit software.
So far, Intel has said it is not worried about the new chips. It will take years for software developers to convert enough of their programs to 64-bit to make the chip a necessary purchase, the company says. Intel suggests it won't provide 64-bit chips for the desktop market until 2005 or 2006"
They don't quote a source though...just "Intel"
