no image with DVI input @ 1024x768

I have two LCD screens Samsung SyncMaster 730B. They are working fine when using the VGA input connector. However I can't get them work properly using the DVI connector.

Whenever I try to set the resolution to 1280x1024@60hz on the DVI connector, the screen just go black. Lowering the resolution to 1024x768 works, but it's ugly since the native resolution is 1280x1024.

Each computer have a different video card. One is an ATI AIW 9800 Pro, the other is a MSI gForce NX 6600. None of them is able to make the monitor works properly when hooked on the DVI connector @ 1280x1024. I noticed that the monitor is able to display an image when hooked on the gForce, however the image is heavly corrupted.

Do you guys have any idea what could possibly be the problem ?
Also, is the monitor supposed to display an image when the computer is booting (DVI) ?

Tomorow I'll try a shorter cable to see if there is any improvement.
I am really running out of ideas 🙁
