NO IE connection after removing Earthlink accel

I removed Earthlink acelerator and now when I dial up my ISP the brower just says it can't find the site. My MSN Messenger works, POP mail works, but cant pull up any websites. I've reinstalled IE 6 but no luck. I'm running 2000 PRO and still using dial up. Any ideas? BTW, I can dial up using my laptop and it works fine, it's problem isn't on the ISP end... HELP!

What happened is that you Winsock got corrupted when you removed the Accelerator (same happens with AOL), there is a program that works with XP, I imagine that it will also work with 2K, is called WinSockXP.

Good luck

downloaded WinsockXPFix... no good.
reinstalled windows (not a clean install)...no good
reinstalled ie... no good
tried another modem... no good.
I'm stumped...

Check your IE proxy settings and make sure that the proxy is disabled. Many dial-up accelerators set up local proxies, and if this is the case your IE will need to be reconfigured after you uninstall the accelerator software.

Ok, I reinstalled earthlink accel and it works again, even though i can register onto it because i closed the account.

Where is the proxy setting?
