I need some help making a decision.
Im getting a new Mobo to go with my 2x 512mb Kingston 2700 RAM (which i hear sucks for OC'ing but i don't really mind that, its default 333mhz will do for now)
I have a 120GB Western Digital SE (8mb buffer)
and the 1700+ Tbred rev B from New Egg
I am allready well aware of the Epox 8RDA+ which i think is a great motherboard but my question is this.
I am considering getting the Shuttle Nforce 2 SN41G2. Its a really good system, obviously not quite as good as the Epox on raw OC'ing etc.... but it has many other benefits.
The only drawback to it is NO MULTIPLIER SETTINGS IN THE BIOS. I want to overclock my 1700+ and have it running synced with my RAM at around 166mhz FSB. Now the BIOS does let you choose this FSB setting, but with the lack of the multi adjust i would be significantly upping the total mhz of the 1700_+
Now i know these chips have been benchmarking stably at very high levels so i was interested to know if anyone had actually tried this. Just putting the 1700+ straight into the SN41G and changing the FSB to 166mhz. If it is stable than i would seriously consider getting the Shuttle PC as it really is a cool little unit.
If not then ill just grab the Epox 8RDA+ and happily overclock with my Thermaltake SLK 800
NB/ This is not an issue of price, i just want to know will changing the FSB to 166mhz on the 1700 without lowering the Mult be a viable option or will i be stuck running my mem and CPU timings out of sinc......
Thanks for any input
