I have no idea what it could be so im posting in the general forum. My friends computer can connect to the internet when its directly hooked up to the cable modem, but once its hooked up via router (Modem -> Router -> PC), it doesnt work. Also when its hooked up through the router, it has an ip address and all that (i put in ipconfig and something comes back).

Any idea, and is not the router because I am on line right now and its not the ethernet card because we just replaced it with a new one. So any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

He meant restarting all computers connected to the router
Don't think that's necessary with Windows XP
But Since you said ipconfig you must be using older windows.

Windows XP uses ipconfig too.

Try ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew

no no i have my computer hooked up to the router and it works fine but his computer it wont work.

that url is really fishy, thats why i thought it had something to do with that too because i have never seen that before.

the router does have mac address set up thing where the mac addy is on the cache and i have to reset the modem so i reset the cache.

EDIT: it is dhcp. TIA
