No hope in Philly - Thinking of relocating

I pictured myself moving out of this sh!tty city to somewhere nice. I visited Cali a couple of years back and loved
every bit of it. However, since I work in the IT field, I know California has tons of ppl who are unemployed and looking
for the same job I am. While I considered myself lucky having a job, my chances of movign ain't happening. My fiance wanted to relocate seeing that her uncle/aunts are moving to some place in Ohio. They can hook her up with a job, and we would atleast know ppl there. However, I don't want to settle for just some normal job, and starting from scratch to hard enough.

I just graduated from college this passed December with a BS. I'm thinking about getting a Master degree, but I see no point in it. Maybe a change of scenary would do me good since I find myself depressed each day at this miserable job of mine. I even thought about a career change, but what else would I want to do since I've been into computers for quite some time now.

Anyone relocated recently?

I moved from Texas to Virginia for a government job back in July. Hardest thing ever considering I grew up in Texas and loved it there but had to go where the work is. With the job market the way it is now, go with the sure thing for now. Especially if you're going to be getting married soon

BTW I hate Virginia, DC, and Maryland! Damn unfriendly people. Nothing like good ole southern hospitality.

I feel your pain. I live in philly too and would love to relocate as well. I feel trapped for many of the same reasons you do only worse, I have a wife and kid to consider as well. I've been contracting in IT for a large company for a while now and, because of the state of the industry, my options at this time are limited. Quite frankly, I think it's time to consider a new field, IT is a dead field in my eyes. That is probably the only way I can feasibly plan an escape from the hell-hole that is Philadelphia PA.

I hate the Philly too but if you can afford it I would move out to the suburbs - I'm in Chester County and its nice if a bit boring, plus the public schools are quite good.

What's so bad about Philly?

I recently relocated from Central NJ upto Western NY.

Took me 5 months to get a job, had to take an entry level position and hoped something else would come up - nothing has. Thinking of moving somewhere else soon, but IT market is bad everywhere. :(

yup. and even when/if there is a turnaraound (more opportunities) I doubt that the wages offered are going to be decent. the bubble has (truly) burst. I am now considering my next move.....
