Wow, I never imagined for a minute that I would ever agree with, or appreciate, much of anything that John Murtha has to say, but he's certainly on the right track with this kind of talk.

"We're taking some time to make sure it's done right," said Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania. "I don't know that we'll get something done before January, and even then we may not get it done. We're going to do it right when it's finally done."
"We said to the speaker [House Speaker Nancy Pelosi], the leadership, let's not rush this thing," Murtha said. "Let's do it right, so we'll have a uniquely American plan, if the thing passes."

We need more of this. Many of us have said it: If the Democrats want to pass reform while they still have total control, they need to take their time and do so properly.

I sincerely hope that this isn't just lip-service, and that Murtha lives up to his promise to "do it right." :)

Do you honestly feel that the current plans are "good," or are you one of those who is willing to see anything pass just for the sake of passing something?

Can you please list for me what, specifically, you consider "good" in the current proposals?

Thanks ahead of time.

The Democrats are in retreat.... run away

When Sarah Palin spoke about "death panels," do you think this was what she had in mind?

A public insurance option, the elimination of pre-existing conditions as a basis to deny coverage, better standards for adoption of doctor recommended care standards by medicare, expanding coverage to the uninsured, subsidies to upgrade our medical infrastructure, etc... etc.... etc.... etc....

I'm sure they'll figure out a way to make their insurance and pharmaceutical company donors happy so that the wealthy can get even richer while we end up spending a larger percentage of the nation's GDP on health care, further making us the laughing stock of the developed world.

Define "good".

Define "good".
The question was for sportage, as he used that word first, so defining that term -- hopefully by citing specifics -- will also be up to him.

I think Peggy Noonan hit it on the head in her column today:

The big, complicated, obscure, abstruse, unsettling and ultimately unhelpful health-care plans, proposals and ideas keep rolling out of Washington. Five bills, thousands of pages, "as it says on page 346, paragraph 3, subsection D." No one knows what will be passed, what will make its way through House-Senate "conference." They don't even know what the president wants, what his true agenda is. He never seems to be leveling, only talking. Everything's open to misdirection and exaggeration, and everything, people fear, will come down to some future bureaucrat's interpretation of paragraph 3, subsection D, part 22.

What a disaster this health-care debate is. It strains, stresses and pierces, it unnecessarily agitates and is doomed to be the cause of further agitation. Who doubts the final bill will be something between a pig in a poke and three-card Monte?

This is true. Only a fvckaboo thinks this plan is good and only a hack thinks it's acceptable.

In most, if not all, states already HAVE a public insurance plan. Its a pooled plan that covers pre-existing. I know because I used it not too long ago. $35/mo or so and Im a type 1 diabetic.

I'd say Murtha came off his meds - as most likely the OP has.

There are elements of 4 or 5 bills that will be the final 'conference' package - not including Obama's 10-yr budget (which has over $300 billion in projected health care savings).

There are also new health care programs that will cost money (in order to save money). I'm certain there is an element of posters at P&N whose panties will bunch over programs like that.

One program I support is the 'range-riding' (my term) home health nurses. Families need a support system in place to help them care for their aging parents (instead of institutionalizing them for a decade or so).

With 'Nurse Range-Rider' care can come directly to the home. A typical home health care worker can have nothing to do with 'medical' care - including the issuance of medication. The range rider can lay out, issue and deliver meds, take blood, do a cursory examination and observe the overall condition of the 'patient'.

Anyone who has cared for an elderly parent -especially those with mobility problems- can give you an earful about trips to the doctor(s).

The ultimate goal is to reduce the need for institutionalized care - whether it be in hospitals or nursing homes.

Health Care Fun Fact of the Day: Two-thirds of nursing homes are operated for profit.

Do you still believe anything that Obama says when it comes to budgets and projections???

Everything that he has claimed has turned out to be 100% false.

Obama claim: stimulus bill will keep unemployment below 8%
Reality: unemployment is now at or near 10%

Obama claim: healthcare reform will save us money
reality: The CBO says that the plan will save no money over the next 10 years

And anything Obama claims about his budget gets demolished by the CBO. The CBO claims that Obama's 10 year deficit projections are off by $2.3 trillion!!! Not that Obama will have $2.3 trillion worth of deficits, but that Obama's plan is OFF by that much.

I believe that YOU bitched endlessly about Bush's $200 billion deficits, but now you are completely silent about Obama's plan to increase spending next year by $500 billion.

So we'll assume you've read and fully understand all 1000+ pages of the current House proposal, and all 600+ pages of the Senate proposal?
