no good video card deals. what to do?

ok there was a HIS 7870 for $160 after rebate. $35 rebate I think it was before I started posing here so I missed it. In October I think. So I know that's a good price for a 7870 now.

I don't know anything about that brand though. I think you guys said HIS was good in my other topic.

You would have to be lucky to get that kind of price now. If it was October, that was the low point for Radeon cards, before 12.11 and Never Settle. Prices soared in late October because of the inclusion of the bundle as well as hype over the new drivers.

This seems to be the case.

I have also been actively tracking gtx 670/680 prices since the beginning of November (granted...only from the name brands I trust), and there have been literally zero deals worth jumping on.

The day I see a Gigabyte (love the tri-cool cooler for its sound characteristics) gtx 670 for less than $300 is when I buy my next card.

Yup. He can either keep circling the airport or pay $20-40 more than he would like and be enjoying a better gaming experience. I bought my GTX 670 in early August. Yeah, it was $400 USD at the time and has come down a little since then, but I'm glad I got it and have been able to play my games at much better settings since.
 
I bought a $40 GT 210 for $10 bucks on boxing day at Canada Computers. Don't think you're looking for something like that though

lol no that is worse than my 9800 gt I sold.

There is the Gigabyte 7950 for $290 with free shipping. That would be $325 after tax no games included. 🙁

Got a HIS 7870 IceQ, and while it's huge (nearly triple slot), it's very quiet and cools damn well. Can't say much for their non IceQ cards, though.

I can't remember if it was the IceQ. All I know it was $160 after rebate.

Looking back I passed on a few good deals. Now I know never wait for the Black Friday or Boxing day when you need a new parts.

There is a 560ti I can get local for $125. Do you think that's a good deal? A 7850 is much better but is about $70-80 more not on sale. I don't like that it's 1gb but maybe worth it.

I sold my 9800 so I would only lose $20.
 
I'm also in Canada and I picked up the 3GB XFX 7970 "Double D" for $329AR during the holidays on NCIX. Your best bet is to take your top 2-3 cards, search them in Shopbot.ca and get NCIX to pricematch your lowest find.

the PCS+ MYST HD 7870 with tahiti LE chip is a good choice. CAD 235 (215 after mail in rebate). 1536 stream processors at 975 mhz boost. 256 bit memory at 1.5 Ghz (192 Gb/s). 32 ROPs.

lol ncix sucks for price match. they have denied me many times. it's all about memory express!

I have been using pcpartpicker I will try shopbot too.

I have been looking at the card.

some reviews I read say very loud fan and also flickering and possible artifacts when alt tabbing a game or program.
 
ok what about a used PNY 560 ti for $120? I have no experience with this brand. It's used, but local. Must still be in warranty, but not transferable.

or 7850 XFX Ghost 1gb for $187 after tax (free shipping). Then $20 mail in rebate which I don't like, it would be $167.

I know 7850 is better than 560 ti but I don't like MIR and both are 1gb cards.

not sure what to do.
 
I use memoryexpress all the time now for pricematching. If they got it, I order from there.

Got my case, hard drive, heatsink, and something else from there.

I have never ordered from directcanada because I have seen nothing good. They always offer free shipping though so if something good came up that is ap lus.

I use shopbot.ca a few times but It's not always accurate. gotta double check incase you there is a good deal.

that pny doesn't look so good I read reviews. looks like a cheapo card too.
 
Looks like there's a new kid in town:

"AMD quietly squeezed out a Radeon HD 7870 LE. Historically, LE was used to indicate a crippled version of a given GPU. However, someone decided that confusion was more fun, and tacked on the suffix to indicate a faster model. In all actuality, this board does employ a crippled Tahiti GPU, so it would have made more sense to call it a Radeon HD 7950 LE.

Aside from a missed opportunity for consistent nomenclature, this 1536-shader and 96-texture unit-equipped card appears to offer promising performance. Our German team already tested the first implementation to make it into our lab, and was impressed with the performance/dollar. In essence, you're looking at a Radeon HD 7950 with one less compute unit and a 256-bit memory bus (cut down from 386 bits).

These new 7870 video cards feature the 28nm fabrication process and have 1280 stream processors clocked @ 1000+MHz. Its performance puts its right between the GTX 570 and 580, however it does still have room for further overclocking.

Not going to lie, that 7870 LE looks like a great card. I think the title is a little misleading though, it should have been XT.

I personally would pay a bit more and get the Gigabyte HD7950 for $290. That card should overclock to 1100-1125mhz+, at which point it's trading blows with a GTX680.

If not, wait a couple months and hopefully GTX700/HD8000 series cards will a launch and GTX670/HD7950/70 are discounted. Alternatively, you could purchase an EVGA card and have 90 day step-up window.
 
I really don't want to spend more than $280 after tax and shipping. I want a good card at the same time.

the 7870 myst would be around that range, but I am not sure if it's worth it. The reviews say good but I don't know anyone with the card.

The 7850 would be around $185 after tax and shipping. But it's only 1gb. so it will suffer on games like Metro and can't do all ultra which is what I want.
