no good video card deals. what to do?

ok I was hoping for a good deal on a video card on the Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or Boxing Day. Never happened!

Remember I am in Canada so our prices are usually $20-$30 more and no free shipping 90% of the time.

I sold my 9800 gt for $100 so now I have no video card. I thought I would get rid of it while it's worth something.

I want 7950, but I have not seen a good deal. It's usually $289 before tax/shipping.

I can settle for 7850 or 7870 if price is good. I have seen a 7870 for 210, I don't know if that's very good. I think it was $190 at one point.

There is a used 560 ti for sale in my town. Guy has owned it 1.5 years. He wants $125. But I know 7850 is much better and is only $50 more new.

what is your opinion? I don't got a lot of money that's why I look for deals.

No. Newegg.com and Newegg.ca are seperate. Like I said Canada prices are usually $30 more. For example Asrock z77 Extreme 4 is like $125 in USA, it's $160 in Canada and never goes on sale.

That Sapphire card is $209 with free shipping right now, but it has really bad reviews.

I don't want 660 ti because of the bandwidth complaints, but if price is good I will get it.

Thanks for links that will help!

So what's the point of linking them? The prices fluctuate so often it's hard to say which card to look for.

Sapphire cards tend to go on sale because they do have some pretty bad reviews. The 7870 in particular because of the black screen issue. Apparently the current batches are fixed now. If you find a good enough price, I would jump on it, and if you have problems you can return it anyway.

You're going to get that with any brand. It just seems like Sapphire has either worse QC at the moment or a worse design than other brands right now, so you have a higher chance of getting a lemon. There's a XFX for $5 more after rebate, but XFX seems to get a bad rap lately, too.

What resolution will you be running at? If you can find a cheap enough GTX 660 (non-Ti), I would recommend it over a Ti. They run very similar and perform well enough, especially if you're at 1080p and under.

So what's the point of linking them?

See:

browse the Deals forum more often.

I simply want him to be cognisant that the deals section here on the forums delivers. He probably would have found a worthy deal within the time frame that he specified if he had browsed the deals section at least every few days. But the whole Canadian thing might put a wrench in that.

Sorry for the confusion OP, but those links aren't really to good deals anymore. Just keep checking the deals section. While November - December is prime time for deals, you may find more. Too bad Canada Newegg doesn't really line up with the US version though...

no I appreciate links still gives me a good idea on what is a good price.

But as I said Canada and USA prices are totally different. Canadian computer sites will not pricematch any USA site. Amazon.com is totally different from Amazon.ca. For example I can't order the awesome Samsung ram from Amazon.com, they only ship to USA. .ca does not even carry it!

I run at 1680x1050 22 inch but I will be getting a 1080p sometime so I want a good card.

I wanted either the Gigabyte 7950 or MSI 7950 but they never go on sale.

That Sapphire card is only 3 eggs and a lot of bad reviews, not just like 10. It doesn't look like they fixed problem.

Do we know the rest of the OP's rig? I don't see it in this thread. Replacing a 9800gt, even a gtx 660 2gb would be a great increase if he has a 'decent' cpu. A 1680x1050 monitor is not that terrible, people are buying them new today as a lower priced option.

no there was an MSI reference 7970 for $320 something in between the Black Friday. I passed on that one.

my rig is being built right now I need motherboard and ram, of course gpu too!

My cpu is 3570k.

I don't know about the situation in Canada since I live in USA. Maybe there are some sales season specific to Canada. Just in case I search for a graphic card in Newegg.ca myself. If I were you, I would buy this Sapphire HD7950 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814202006). This is perfect for 1080p resolution. Unlike HD7870, HD7950 doesn't have black screen issues. This is a plus as well. If you want to do water cooling later on, there is a water block available for this card. Including both shipping and rebate, the price is Ca$301.48.

what is rebate card? instant rebate? I don't like mail in rebate not worth it and annoying.

after taxes and shipping that card would be $360 not including the rebate thing. that is expensive for me.

the gigabyte 7950 has been $280 with free shipping.

why choose Sapphire over MSI or Gigabyte 7950, the most popular?

Sapphire is a principle manufacturer of ATI cards in the same way as EVGA is a principal manufacturer of Nvidia cards. I understand that there were hardware issues in HD7870/50 series in Sapphire cards. As far as I understand, this issue happened in HD7870/50 of other manufacturers as well. This is an isolated issue for HD7970/50 cards not for HD7970/50 cards. I am happy about Gigabyte as well. Their motherboards are excellent. I trust their technology. However if I buy ATI cards from Gigabyte, I would go to HD7970 Lightning. But this one is very expensive. One main complaint about reference HD7970/50 cards is coil whine. Some people find it annoying. But this is an issue for reference HD7970/50 cards of any manufactures. Asus makes good cards as well. But many complain about their RMA services. As far as I understand, RMA services are fine in Sapphire and EVGA. One more thing is that if you want to do overvoltage and overclocking, the reference model is usually a way to go. I think that this Sapphire reference model let you do overvoltage without any issues. Gigabyte's HD7950 with three fans (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...scrollFullInfo) has locked BIOS for voltage tweak. HD 7970/50 is known to be a good overclocker. If you are lucky, you could run HD7950 almost at the same level as HD7970. When you want to do overclocking, you want to have a capability to do overvoltaging. I think that this Sapphire is OK in this sense (You had better make sure).

One more bit of info. Its a cardinal sin going from one vendor to the other and not formatting,,,

If you go from 9800 GT to 7950 ...... you probably need a format, or else things will be slow. Tangled drivers with nvidia.

I say stick with nVidia if you don't want any problems.

ncix.com is our equivalent of newegg.com and they have killer weekly deals.

Video card deals do suck right now. Two months ago a 7850 2GB (HIS) was selling for $140 AR. There was also a GTX 660 for like $160 AR. Now, you can't even touch those prices.
