Hi MrAK,

We decided to forgo the 780i board as this was basically same chipset as 680i. We are however still on schedule to have our 790i at the end of June/beginning of July.

Best Regards,
Colin

So a July release is definite? This topic about Gigabyte's 780 and 790 boards just came to mine a few minutes ago due to the fact that i noticed their weren't any 780 or 790 boards from Gigabyte, thats the reason for the question. What it delayed for some reason? Has it already been tested and reviewed to see its potential? And Colin it sounds like you work for Gigabyte or know alot of whats going on behind closed doors, dealing with the new boards from Gigabyte. I'm actually building a new gaming rig and was wondering if the new Nvidia cards coming out this month (GTX280) will the boards fully utilize the cards' potential? *I really need to know since im holding back on spending #3400-$4000 for this new build and i know i could trust Gigabyte since i still have a 680 and its still kicking*

Thanks in Advance,
MrAK

Hi MrAk,

Yes, I am Technical Marketing manager at our headquarters in Taipei. Unless there is any last minute delay, we are still looking good for early July on the shelves. We originally planed this time frame as we wanted to get Intel P45 development done first.

The 790i chipset's main strength is obviously SLI support with native PCIE 2.0. While the 780i offered PCIE 2.0 support, it wasn't native in the chipset, so if any Nvidia board is going to get the maximum potential of the GTX 280, it will be the 790i board.

In two weeks time or so, keep your eyes posted, as we will be sending out samples of our 790i board to the media, so you should be able to see some performance numbers soon.

Cheers,
Colin

very nice indeed Colin THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the update and i just want to add that your 680i board that i got last year is still running well and i will surely look forward to what performance your new board has to offer.

Gratefully excited,
MrAK

Sorry to butt in on the OP's thread, but any word on when P45 is going to be hitting the shelves? I've been hearing third week of June?
