No "GeForce5" to come...all new core technology

It's about time! The tech they use today just seems like massively tweaked TNT-tech! And I never really liked the name "GeForce".

Hopefully they start using that Gigapixel technology... It would be sweet 🙂! But, my next card propably wont be using NVIDIA-chip...

Well, nVidia always said they would be using 3dfx technology as part of the NV30.

I wonder what the new series of chips is going to be called?

Heh before I saw who posted it, I was ready for somebody who claims to work for nvidia to be telling us all about the geforce 5 in his first post ever 🙂

Anyway, I'm excited. Never much cared for "geforce" anyway.

Nvidia needs something new; they've been doing a little poorly in the entire stock arena (which is, I suppose, a big deal for them).

<< they are just afraid Matrox will own the market soon 😉 >>

I'm pretty sure that the next gen NVIDIA card would OWN Matrox 🙂

It will probably be equivalent......if it truly is a new core and not just a souped-up Geforce. 🙂

amish

I just hope that software company's take advantage of this new technology. I haven't really seen much improvement in computer game graphics in awhile.

Yeah, that's relatively "old news" about the new nVidia cards not being called GeForce x That's why my crazy ass, who usually always buys things for no real reason, is actually going to hold off on a video card upgrade until the fall.

Yeah, it'll be called the He-Force

("h" after "g") . . .

It'll be aHella lotta $$$.
🙁

EDIT: HeForce sounds kinda, well male chauvinist . . . well, at least it may cost some Gs.
🙂
Any idea what the new ATI offering will be called? And will they still be advertising that "Radeon" tattoo on a guy?Q

Not necessarily. Matrox will propably have superior image quality (they always do) and loads of features. And if it does have 256bit memory-bus (like I have heard), mem-bandwidth isn't really an issue anymore. And Matrox-cards usually have pretty good longevity. Alot of people still use G400's to play RTCW for example, NVIDIA-cards of similar age are not capable of something like that.

So a GeForce 256 or TNT2 Ultra can't play RTCW?? PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHLEASE

As for Matrox, this new card could be vaporware for all we know. I'll believe it when I see it. You can bet 100% that NVIDIA will have a kickass card out 9 months. With Matrox, it's 50/50 or even worse odds.

"mem-bandwidth isn't really an issue anymore"

Wait till the chip makers design their new chips with 6 or even 8 rendering pipelines.

Lets not get into Matrox again please. It's too obvious that ATi and nVidia are way ahead of Matrox, why rely on Matrox fan sites, scattered, or very vague and unsupported information and statements regarding a possible DX9 Matrox card...

Oh, baloney. I recently sat down to a good game of RTCW on a TNT2 (non-ultra) and had no trouble.

The reality is that ATi and nVidia have nothing to prove -- they already have the latest and greatest. Matrox has had diddly squat for a couple years and the Parhelia rumors are just that -- rumors. I personally don't believe it will ever see the light of day; I may be wrong, and I hope I am -- more competition is a good thing.

256 bits wide? you just actually doubled your mem bandwidth. not theoretically doubled like DDR does. i think you'd actually run into chip a processing fill rate limitation with that, at least with the current designs.

and i doubt nvidia will come out with a tiler... they have done work in that direction and the benefits of tiling don't work, according to them, with fully programmable t&l. unless of course their tech guys were lying at the presentation they gave at UT. i don't see why they would, engineers usually hate the marketing BS more than anyone.

Matrox owners are just scared 😉,Nvidia have gotten the most out of the Geforce series and are doing what`s logical which`s a new design in their next card, one thing for sure you know it won`t be vapourware 😀 .

🙂

Sure they do, espesially GF256 (which isn't really same generation as G400, comparing those two is more or less pointless). But TNT2 doesn't scale as well as G400 does. And, they (including GF256) also have inferior image-quality.

Good things come to those who wait 😉. 50/50 or even worse odds? Well, you are in for a surprise.

Oh please! Just because Matrox hasn't been paying attention to markets that interest YOU doesn't mean that they haven't been doing a thing! Matrox does EXTREMELY well in areas that require excellent multi-display capabilites and perfect image-quality! Honestly, NVIDIA or Ati hasn't really been their competitors for several years because they cater to different segments of the market! With Parhelia Matrox is just re-entering markets they exited few years ago.
