No free space on C?

I have allocated almost 4 gigs for strictly Windows XP but somehow i am down to 150 megs left on it. I dont know what is using up the free space and why it has done it so quickly? I went through the folders and found that temporary Internet files has 700 megs so i deleted them; however, when i check size of folder it still says 700 megs and windows still only has 150 megs left + there is nothing in the folder. When i open up the C drive and select all of the files and folders in it it comes 1 gig short of the reported megs used up (it is 2.5 but it says 3.5 is being used up). Please help me as why the temp internet problem is happening or what could be taking up all the space on the c drive.

THANKS

4 gigs of space is not very much, considering that the install of
WinXP takes over 1 gig, and Office Suites (2k/XP) another 850+ meg.
Typical games are reaching the avg of 1 gig install, so space fills quickly
(especially if you have the drives formatted FAT32 instead of NTFS)

Make sure that you delete the hidden files that still probably remain in the
Windows TEMP directory.

System Restore....you have that enabled? should be a folder called SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION on your C drive, you might have to go in your folder options and uncheck "hide protected system files", there you'll be able to find how much space system retore is using.

Lith Tech - Thats why i said it was stricly for windows XP....the other apps and games goes on my other partitions
trashman - with unchecked hide system files there is still 600 megs missing so i dont know

any other comments as to why this is happening?
It hasn't happened before

THANKS
