Hi Guys,

Just got my hands on SGS I9000 a week back, now running on Eclair 2.1 with JG4 Update. Pretty satisfied with TouchWIZ 3.0 too

Am getting GPRS Service from my provider - Vodafone, India. The real problem for me is Vodafone does not provide EDGE (True 2G Packet Data Transfer) Service other than iPhone and Blackberry users.

Am not able to log in to GTalk and other Google applications so as can not enter Android Market as it's obviously asking me to log in with Google Account.

Have browsed thousands of web pages for the fix, which does not exist as of now. No manual settings to enable EDGE from Vodafone. Am feeling handicapped without Google Services and Android Market

Any help from here??? Thanks in advance

Have you tried updating the EDGE APN settings for Vodafone India? They vary by the part of India you are in, so your best bet to talk to one of the mobile phone shops or talk to Vodafone customer service.

You can try these:

VODAFONE India
APN address: portalnmms
Username :
Password :

or try this

VODAFONE India
APN address: www
Username :
Password :

Also, try reseting the network settings of the phone - and then re-entering the APN settings.

But your best bet is to talk to Vodafone or an authorized Vodafone reseller. If they are saying they don't offer EDGE except to Blackberry or iPhones... then you are probably stuck. You could switch to a different carrier. The only other option is to spoof your IMEI number but that could result in serious legal action and I would not even think about that.
