After spending a couple hours searching various forums and usenet postings, and my on "testing", I think the problem for me is the Detonator drivers... in XP DVI works fine in safe mode. As soon as I change to the detonator driver, the LCD goes into powersave mode. This leads me to two possibilities...
1. XP is trying to force the LCD to use an unsupported resolution/frequency, and the blank screen is the result of bad synching.
I don't know how this is possible. I've set the refresh rate to 60Hz, and have use a myriad of resolutions from 800x600 to the optimal 1280x1024. In safe mode I was able to go up to 1280x1024 with 32 bit color without problems.
2. there is something broken with the hardware involved (the monitor, videocard, or the cable)
I can't see this being the problem either, since it works in safe mode.
Therefore at this point the only thing I can conclude is that the drivers are broken with DVI for me. The option to select a digital display is greyed out and I don't know how to force the drivers to use the digital display. At this point here are my choices...
- wait for someone to post a fix (who knows how long that will be)
- get a different video card (already blew a lot of money on the monitor, I'd rather not have to buy more equipment)
- get a non-NVIDIA video card (since I game a lot, that means a Radeon of some sort. Is ATI a good solution now? How about their drivers?)
Sigh...
PS: On a whim I emailed Visiontek tech support... they suggested to flash the bios on the card... of course I have to wait about 9 hours before I can get home to try it out.
