Got the new HannsG 19" LCD. VGA works fine. Hooked up the dvi cable and got "no video signal detected. The card is old. It is a Geforce2 mx/mx400 with dvi and tv out. Runnng xp sp2 with all the patches. Running native res at 1280x1024. Is the card too old to work with the new monitor? Thanks.

I wouldn't think that's the problem. I don't think there's a difference between DVI then (I didn't know GF2s had that) and DVI now, except we have dual-link now. I would be very, very surprised if that monitor used dual-link (usually for something like 2048x1536 res). I could be very wrong on this, though. It could be that the DVI port on your card is busted. Maybe you can try getting any dust out of it.

Oh, would you mind telling me your impressions of the monitor otherwise? My brother found a link on TigerDirect where the HN199D is being sold for $170 AR and it looks tempting (is that the one you have?). I've never heard of this company before and I found your thread by doing a search for "Hanns". Right now, it's between this and the Dell 1907FP (which is a similar price to the Hanns w/o rebate and I don't know about TD's rebates).

I assume the card has both DVI and VGA ports, but have you tried one of those DVI->VGA adapters plugged into the DVI port? If you get an analog signal through that, you could rule out that the DVI port on the card is completely dead.

OK i got it working. Went to the gateway site, entered my serial number and got reccommended updates. I got the latest motherboard and video drivers. It was a pain to dl and install them. Yes I tried to switch to digital before the new drivers and no go.

OK theJ, here is my evaluation. It is the Hanns hu196. This is my first lcd. It is very nice. It comes very bright as default. I turned it down from 100 to 48. I ran pixel buddy and it was perfect.
No dead pixels. Colors are very nice. Text is sharp. It replaced my 4 year old 19" KDS that had washed out colors. I choose to pay the $5.50 fee on the $90 rebate to get it quicker. There is also a $20 rebate. They give you a dvi cable, vga cable and speaker cable. I have not tried the speakers, but I heat they suck. It has a nice tilt feature but no heigth adjustment.

I have one small complaint and would ask for you guys input. I use IE for browsing. The top inch of the browser that has the back button, url bar, google bar, starts on the left of the screen as a light grey. As you go to the right, the gradient changes to a shade of yellow. At the far rigt where the "go" button is, it is a light yellow. I ran pixel buddy and another monitor program that colors the entire screen and see no shading or gradient color changes. I ran some high res jpgs and no color problems. I have a 3 year parts and labor guarantee, so I will watch it.

Thanks for the suggestions to all who replied.

Thanks for the review!

Anyway, right now I have a Dell P780 CRT. For IE in Windows XP with the default theme, the top of the browser starts as light grey and fades to a sort of dirty beige or yellow as it moves to the right. I don't know if I can describe it better than that.
