This really looks like an awesome phone, it's basically everything I wish the Nexus 6 was.

Disappointed there is no SD slot or camera OIS. Would prefer a 1080p screen but the battery is big enough that I'm okay with that over-res. Now I just need an unlocked bootloader and I might finally have my device...

More and more phones are now pushing down the navigation buttons out of screens. I saw another Chinese phone with out-of-screen capacitive buttons. (Xiaomi? Hwuei?) This is a small but a useful development.

Yeah, good luck with the bootloader.

I know. I think I'd actually settle for a dev model on this phone and use my upgrade on an iphone 6 or something and resell it.

My only gripe is that it isn't smaller. I'd gladly trade size for less resolution and a slightly less powerful SoC if the battery life remained constant. Motorola phones have always have really good battery life in general, but I think this could set the bar.

Phones are already thin enough. It's time to stop trying to shave off another fractional part of a millimeter and to provide a phone that can go a weekend without charge. I realize that most people charge on a daily basis, but it's nice knowing that you can last an extra day (or two) without needing to charge if you're out camping or just away from the grid.

Yeah, my first one was an HTC Evo 4G on sprint, it was comical how fast it could go through a battery. I had a car charger, a work charger, a home charger, a shop charger, and an opportunity charger till I bought a Siedio extended battery. My GS4 has almost as long a run time as that thing did with the big battery on it. And going from Sprint to Verizon was like going from 3g to Wifi lol. As for the size and cosmetics, I'm just going to put it in an otterbox or something anyway so whatever pretty much. It's the guts and screen and camera that matter to me, and prompt updates. I'm probly gonna call around Thursday and see if anyone has it in stock. With a tuff case on it the N6 is just gonna be tooo big I think. If the 2nd Moto X had better battery, or QI charging, and a better camera I'd be fine with it. Oh well, such is tech..

Yeah, I just don't understand how Motorola can do so many awesome things yet produce such a shitty and stupid camera. More Megapixels won't fix it. It's all software as far as I'm concerned.

Here's an example:
https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=E46BB480E134A82A&id=E46BB480E134A82A!5755&v=3

Grabbed my wife's iPhone 5s and it didn't do that. None of my digital cameras did that. Hell even a $50 Lumia 520 didn't do that. But my MotoX did. No clue WTF it's trying to do there. There's a pile of other shots that are mess too. In anything less than ideal lighting forget about taking a picture. It'll be an underexposed shadow.

Maybe not. My M8 camera did something similar to that until I scraped off the oleophobic coating with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

The battery life of the Moto X2 is the biggest disappointment. I was so looking forward to that phone, but the AnandTech review basically talked me out of it.

Don't worry, Verizon will find a way to cock up the Nexus 6.

-A former Verizon Galaxy Nexus owner.

But the Verizon Galaxy Nexus was unlockable, rootable, and received every update the international version did. It just came with two or three Verizon apps you could disable and never see again.

I personally think the Turbo is an ugly phone, looks like a typical Verizon Moto phone from 2012 or earlier. Not a fan of that big bottom lip and the wasted space with the hardware buttons.

The Verizon Nexus lagged the unlocked one so much in update timing it was a running joke for a while. With that said, that Kit Kat Moto X update on Verizon was right in line with unlocked Nexus devices so it can be done.

Just the people not willing to give up Verizon's data speed and coverage like me. :)

see, im trying to switch TO verizon, because US cellular is the only other carrier here and they suck when i travel.

i have a gen 1 moto x and LOVE it. i am hooked on saying "ok google now" to do things before i unlock the phone. i love the size.

but if i go to verizon...i guess a turbo? considering the moto x 2014 has lesser battery, that sort of sucks. kinda wanted to customize a new moto x but i dont know if thats a good decision considering the battery.

I think the turbo or the N6 is a no brainer unless the budget is tight or one really dislikes large phones. If the battery or cam was better on the 2nd gen Moto X I'd have bought it(for less money than the turbo). I suspect it was a calculated design "flaw". Other than it's expensive sorta, I don't have any complaints with VZW in the last few years of use, went from Sprint who was a bit cheaper and had unlimited data at the time, but the coverage and data speed was a joke, on both coasts. Sell you a nice VZW GS4 if you want to avoid the contract. :)

So how is long-term support going to be with Lenovo in charge?

That is the big question isn't it?

I think the tie to Google will be strong enough for the Moto X, X2 and Droid Turbo to get updates through their life. I think you are safe buying any 2014 Moto device thanks to the Nexus 6.

Will Lenovo maybe see updates as an unneeded expense like so many other OEMs in 2015 and onward? Who knows. Hopefully they will see that many are actually attracted to the Moto line for this reason and keep throwing resources at getting updates on older devices.

Too many assume updates nowaday (like everyone buying a Sony device, just saying) but right now the only company with a "great" track record in the Android space is Samsung.

Same. I was gonna buy the x2 buy not enough battery life. If only the z3 compact was on a carrier. Just can't bring myself to spend 500 flat out on a new phone.

I was quite interested in this model, but I was worried about the larger size. So, I went to the Verizon store to try it out. The size/weight isn't too bad. But, the volume rocker is exactly where my left hand middle finger wants to grab the phone. I couldn't find a comfortable way to grab it without touching the volume buttons.

Is there a way in Android to disable the volume rocker adjustments? I use LLAMA to set the volume (mute at work, loud at home, and quiet elsewhere), so the volume buttons have no use for me.

got the turbo saturday. its a good, fast phone, but honestly...a little bit awkward when making phone calls.

i dont make a huge number of phone calls,so ill live with it, but i prefer the 4.7" moto x 2013 i had, maybe ill get used to this. i prefer the smaller phone in hand, too but...oh well.

I caved and picked up a Turbo today. I'm coming from a 2013 Moto X too. This thing reminds me of something Nokia would make. Black, dense, solid as hell. Seriously, the build quality on this is so far beyond the Moto X. The X was sort of creaky in places and sounded hollow. This thing is solid. The haptic feedback on button presses is also much more pleasant. That sounds silly, I know. But the Moto X feedback really bothered me.

I went with the base 32 gig black one. I wanted to like the ballistic and the bigger storage, but it just felt too slippery in my hand. Plus there's some posts on other sites where the nylon is already starting to fray. I feared that would happen.

The phone actually comes in three different "textures". The basic black one actually has a slightly rubbery no-slip texture to it. The red is much more of a matte, hard finish. Then there's the ballastic that offers texturized fabric, but it's very slippery in dry hands. Just couldn't get comfortable holding that. Especially coming from a much smaller MotoX. The basic black just felt the most grippy and would slide around when placed on an incline.

Size wise the Turbo dwarfs the X. It's *a lot* taller and a little bit wider. Also heavier. I could tell the difference holding the Turbo after several minutes when setting it up.

Screen wise the Turbo is considerably sharper, brighter and more saturated. It just pops where the X is a bit washed out looking.

I've already messed around with the turbo charger. It came at 50% batter life out of the box. 20 minutes and a very hot phone later it was at 75%. As hot as it gets charging I think I worry about long term battery damage. I do have a Qi charger that I'll stick it on while at home to trickle charge overnight.

I haven't messed around much with phone calls or pictures, so no comments on those either. I'll also be another office tomorrow where the real battery test will come into play. I get terrible cell reception and my MotoX can be as low as 25% after 4 hours while in that office. That was one of my main reasons in upgrading. I wanted a more resilient battery.

The phone looks much nicer in person than it does in pictures. The capacitive keys are much lower profile and sleek looking in hand than they are online. I'll update tomorrow with more information after I've fiddled with it a bit more tonight.

Ok, so the camera is *REALLY* starting to piss me off. I've had at least three pictures now where I've tapped the screen, the onscreen shutter makes it animation and the picture slides to the right. Go back to my camera roll and the picture taken was nothing like what I had in frame at the time of the shot. I've been taking shots of application errors to send to vendors and and I'll go check the image before sending and it will be a blurry shot of the bottom of the monitor bezel. Last night I took a picture of the TV after my 6 year old bowled a 224 on Kinect sports to show to my wife and it saved an animation after the score. I have no idea what this thing is doing.

Try the Google Camera app for now, I'm hoping for software improvements in L.
As it is now the cam is only worth a damn in pretty well lit large pics or well lit up close on mine. It wigs out at low light and/or motion. I've had noticeably better pics in low light from the Google Camera, but still not good.

This is going to be the next two years, I can already see it. Fast phone, great battery, but looking longingly at the OIS camera on the giant-ass Nexus...
