As beloved as the Soup Nazi, Time Warner has decided to postpone DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades in, well what do you know, the same cities that they cancelled metered billing.

Apparently, they planned on rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 as the same time as metered billing - now, how much sense does this make - "We'll give you DOCSIS 3.0, but cap your usage so you can get to the cap that much faster".

what a crock - and TWC wonders why it has such a poor image across the country.

Yea, can't imagine the point of putting in such high speeds when the cap is so low they'd hit it after the first week

echo what racolvin said. Who cares...its not like they were actually going to let them use it. They may have well said they were doing away with their plans to offer free gold bars for every month you had time warner cable.

TWC is much worse than Comcast. Comcast actually offers a pretty decent service IMO, they just got a lot of bad press (and rightly so) for their BitTorrent throttling.

100% agree. I can pull 16mbit at will from fast endpoints on the net. Have had the same IP address for 3+ years, because the service virtually never goes down.

Comcast is expensive, but the service (at least for me) has been top notch.

At least you can be fairly assured with comcast that you're not going to be paying for BS caps. 250gb is a very reasonable number in my opinion. I think the highest I've ever managed *might* have been 150gb, and that was pretty ridiculous.

Really my only beef with comcrap was that their customer service was terrible. It was like they were broken into departments and didn't have access to each other's data. I'd ask if a service was available, they'd say it was...put in an order, I'd take a day off work and the van would show up and the guy would tell me their lines ended 2 miles ago. Why the hell couldn't they have given the CS rep a map? Then they'd offer to charge you to come repair the cable they broke.

Say what you will about Adelphia, but before they were bought out their customer service was pretty good and the service levels had become solid.

Just because they were going to introduce DOCSIS 3.0 in the same cities as metered billing doesn't mean that there would be data caps on the DOCSIS 3.0. I think that they would introduce it in those cities for marketing reasons. The common person wouldn't double their monthly internet fees to upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0, so they'll introduce metered billing to normal plans and market DOCSIS 3.0 as an unlimited data plan. Under the metered plan people who were paying $50/month might start seeing bills of $60-70/month. Then TWC could say, "For just $30 more per month you could get 10 times the speed and unlimited data." That's what I think they're doing anyways.

I'm not arguing which one is worse, but I had multiple problems with comcast WAY before the whole bittorrent thing.

I'll give you one example which happened at least twice.

My line goes down.

I call them and say hey, this has been down for 24 hours now, I really need it back up.

I ask if something is wrong with the service in my area. They deny it and say its fine.

I then of course go through their list of resetting the modem etc.

Frustrated, I agree to wait for a repairmen to show up.

It takes roughly 6 days for them to show up.

The service comes back RIGHT BEFORE the repairmen arrives.

The repairmen comes and acts as if I have been pulling their leg.

This happened more than once with them. They have a policy of LYING.

.......

They also like to lie about the prices of their service and then once it is installed say that they never offered such a deal. This happened to my family as well as my gf's brother.

That's the point actually. They don't block your connection once you hit the cap they start charging you more; the faster customers hit the cap the better for them.

Nothing is worse than Comcrap. Nothing.

That's what I thought, but I've lived in Pennsylvania and in NY and TWC is definitely worse. I never thought it would be possible to be worse than Comcast but TWC was able to accomplish what seemed to be impossible.

TWC is also calling people in NC telling them how bad an idea of city run broadband will be for them. Some of the calls are more filled with lies than political campaigns. They are also using tv stations that they own in the area to create stories that are biased against the idea.

Can't win in court ? Slander them !
