I noticed this recently on my computer that on both IDE channels, the second device is always started in the PIO mode.
So the first device (hard disk on one channel, cdrom on the other) is started in UDMA/DMA mode while the second device for either channel is PIO even when 'DMA if available' option is selected in device properties.
I am running Windows 2K, with Athlon 1.2GHz (no OC), Epox motherboard. The chipset is VIa's KT133a. The behaviour remained the same before and after installing VIA's drivers.
This was not the case before, but I had to reinstall Win 2K recently. Initially I didn't notice it but in the last two days I looked at these settings because of disk performance and found this.
Could anybody help me with this?
