wk2 died on me a week or so ago and I can't get it reinstalled(says to contact your hardware vendor)..So I have been replacing what I think could be wrong..and eventually got to the motherboard.
All of my equipment used to work fine when I had w2k installed and they all work fine currently under windows me.
So I ordered an ECS K7S5A board to replace my MSI K7T turbo(I had 512 MB of pc133 memory that I wanted to use until the ddr prices dropped again). It's a cool looking board btw..but I don't like the memory placements on the board. So I switched out the boards and everything went fine until I tried to slide the mb tray back in the case. I'm using some generic hi density memory that is twice the height of normal memory, so I can't slide the tray all the way in because it won't fit. Cheesy looking, but doable I think. I hook everything up per the manual and all, then fire it up..
I hear the roar of the fans, the smell of a mb when turned on the first time, see the hard drive light accessing and the dvd accessing..everything looks great except there is no display...
I check and the monitor is on and hooked up. Turn it off and try it again. Take the vid card out and reseat it a time or 2, try to do the same with the memory, but they are in there tight. Now all of this equipment worked before and everything appears normal except no ouput to the monitor, nor does the monitor standby light even flicker when it is fired up. Nor do I get any beeps(this would have helped alot).
Here is what I am trying
K7s5a
2x256 MB hi density generic memory <--this is what I am thinking of
a geforce mx vid card
900 Mhz Tbird 200 FSB
Maxtor 40 GB 7200 rpm ata 66 hd
Maxtor 6.8 GB 5400 rpm ata 66 hd
300 watt amd approved power supply
Creative DVD player
Now I had some difficulty installing the memory(a very tight fit) This memory only worked with certain chipsets, the kt133a, my msi board, was one of them. The sis735 did not exist when I purchased this memory. I was thinking this last night, but then read somewhere on here about the AGP card has to go in until you hear a crunching sound. The video card slid right in for me with absolutely no probs, but no crunching sound either..
So what do you think is wrong?
