No display at powerup?

I built a new system today using the following components -

Asus a8n premium mobo, Athlon 64 4000+ CPU, XFX 7800 GTX, two 1gb corsair value select ram modules and an Enermax 600w PSU.

The install seemed to go fine, but when powering up the system for the first time no data appeared on the monitor. I looked inside the case, the fans on the cpu and graphics card were running smoothly. I've switched around the the memory modules, but still nothing on my screen.

The monitor says the cable is connected, but no signal is coming down it.

I'm not remotely knowledged about hardware, so I have no idea what the problem is. Are there any other tests I can run here to narrow the problem down?

My monitor says the cable is connected fine, just no signal.
