No digital vibrance for 8800's in Vista?

Why doesn't digital vibrance for my 8800GTS work in Vista? Anyone having this problem? Anyone know a fix?

Using the latest (158 Forceware iirc) drivers. Vista 32bit.

Digital Vibrance isn't supported on G80 at all regardless of OS, same for image sharpening.

I demand my DV back! :(

Nothing looks the same. My life was full of color and now it's full of not, woe is me. :(

Yea, same here. I got it working right now with my 8800GTS on XP. And it's definitely working. It's not like you adjust the setting and nothing happens.

Well, nvidia have evidently changed their minds in the latest drivers. The information above came from ChrisRay, who passed it on directly from nvidia. It would be interesting to knpw if Image Sharpening works also.

Digtal vibrance isn't working in Vista Ultimate64 for me.
The bar is there, but you can't enable it..

Woo for fake colors and oversaturation...they never should've added it in the first place.

I didn't know people here actually use digital vibrance and sharpening.

Digital vibrance - Oversaturating and overcontrasting your image is not what I would call "vibrant"

Sharpening - Why does anyone even need this? Everything on your screen is already displayed in pixels assuming you have an LCD. Maybe it helps to sharpen up CRTs but they're definitely the minority here.

I have a hardware monitor calibrator and I actually prefer the look of having a perfectly calibrated monitor. If you view a lot of photos and especially if you print photos, I highly recommend a hardware monitor calibrator.

Yeah. I don't edit/print photos, but I still use my trusty Lacie Blue Eye colorimeter to calibrate the LCD. It feels so much better knowing that the colors displayed are natural and are what the artist/game manufacturer meant them to be.

IMHO, digital vibrance and sharpening are only to be used with CRTs. I used to use them as well back when I had my Samsung 19" CRT.

Or at least, for the sake of your eyes, not using things like Digital Vibrance. All it does is jack up your contrast and saturation way above normal.

Yes, it's "more colorful", but it's also less accurate. Using a properly calibrated display takes a little getting used to if you have spent years staring at oversaturated images, but it looks a lot better overall.

I use DV and had ClearType enabled on XP, worked fine.

I also prefer it because of my TN panel's washout colors. Giving a bit of a boost with it makes the colors correct. I don't use image sharpening, that never did work on XP/Vista.

To clarify, DV and ClearType work fine together, but DV exaggerates the colored highlights that ClearType uses in subpixel rendering. This decreases font legibility somewhat and at med. or high settings may make the colored highlights clearly visible around text.

These newer drivers (I'm using 165.01) are very good indeed.

Just tested out the old nvidia Grove demo which makes use of nv1x NSR (nvidia shading rasterizer - the precursor to pixel shaders), it works fine with these drivers - it has been broken for a long time (since the 80 series IIRC).

So, this along with DV working would seem to indicate that nvidia's drivers are not as un-unified as some here and elsewhere would like to make them out to be.

They still are not totally perfect (for instance the aliens in nvidia's Toys are not rendered at all, and haven't been IIRC since midway through the FW60.xx series).

Yet more proof these drivers are good (as if it were needed), in Gothic 1, from somewhere around the beginning of the FW70.xx series drivers up until now, if you enabled the console (thorugh marvin mode) and entered "zhighqualityrender" and "zfogzone" (think those are the actual commands - they autocomplete in game), the game would crash (in prior drivers it worked fine). The game does not crash under FW165.01.

The effect of the two commands is to vastly increase draw distance and remove z fogging. These commands (as well as marvin mode) can be used in Gothic II also.

I agree, the game looks "better" with those options enabled.

But...why is the one forest filled with sand?

And what does any of this have to do with the desktop color settings panel?

The forest isn't filled with "sand", they just didn't render more than the outer perimeter of it.

Its in here because this is the last place I remembered talking about nvidia drivers (and it shows that nvidia's current drivers are far from being crap or "de-unified" despite what some people want to believe - in fact they are the best driver set I've seen in a long, long time).
