I have no idea what's wrong, but my desktop isn't showing at all and whenever I try to issue the "show desktop" command (from quick launch) it provides the following message: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." My desktop is completely blank. I can't right click on it. I'm running windows 2000. My account is of the type "Administrator", so I'm even more confused than I normally would. *sigh* any ideas?

Perhaps you are missing the proper permissions for your profile. You can check this by going to
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME
Of course, username is your name.
Right click that folder, select the security tab and check to see that both you and the system account have Full Control of it. If you do not, make it so.
