No desire to work this week

I have absolutely no desire to be in work so far this week and spent yesterday doing nothing productive, but have to whip myself into shape and get to work on a project that's closing in 3 months..

How do you do it? How do you force yourself to be productive when you don't really have firm deadlines?

swbsam:

I've concluded that if you have a hard time getting your work done at a job, you are probably not interested in the line of work and therefore should probably not work at that job.

I'm 22 and have been an intern at the railroad for almost three years. It pays amazingly, but not really my cup of tea. After graduation from college I don't think I'll go into this right away. I need to go do something else.

Easy, just focus on the easy stuff first. Once thats out of the way, the harder stuff wont seem so hard because its all thats left. 🙂

I'm just the opposite. Get the difficult, unpleasant crap out of the way first...the rest should be a breeze.

^ easy to say this, but maybe the OP needs some tips and techniques to help him out.
I suggest writing an overview of the project again, and break it up into discrete elements. Make a "to do" list with one or two elements on it and get cracking.
Put anything else you need to do on that list, and anything else you are doing at work that you DON'T need to do, including neffing. Cross stuff off as it gets done.
Wipe that out, toss it in the can and make the next one.
Having it in small pieces will help tremendously.

I make "to-do" lists daily...sometimes several of them for each category of things I need to do.

If I do anything that's NOT on one of the lists...I add it then check it off. 😀

ISTJ personality type.

Thanks for the advice. I think i'll do - a list of to dos and smaller tasks.

It's weird - now that I'm a manager I'm not micro management myself, and haven't seen my boss in 2 weeks. I'm still kinda young and stupid, so I have to have a lot of discipline, which is hard when I'm already exhausted.

To do lists help tremendously. It helps me a great deal to work from home a few days a month as allowed, gives me a chance for my introverted side to recharge.

If you can get away with slacking, do it.

Problem with this concept is you find yourself slacking on just about everything else - which can be a bad thing - especially when it comes to work and layoffs, firings, etc.

To the OP - maybe it's just the heat? It's been in the 100's around here and I don't know of anyone who isn't motivated to do anything other than sit in a nice cool spot all day [air conditioned mall, the beach, etc].

I finished a huge project last week that took me several 18hr + days to finish up. Now for the past few days I'm like, there is stuff that needs doing, but screw it. House is a mess, kitchen needs cleaning. I was even too lazy to put the toilet paper back on the holder when it ran out, just set it on the sink. I got a headache now and next I'm just going to lay on the couch an watch some movies, I got a few cold ones in the fridge and some sliced roast beef for some sandwiched and chips later, the world can exist or whatever, but I'm done for the time being. I thought once I got the work load off that I would rebound and get energy back, that I would be relieved , but just the opposite happened . I'm in a don't really give a damn mood.
