I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get my new Tyan S3891 with 2 opterons and 4GB RAM to post. Fiddled with it for an hour before I researched the power supply a 2nd time and realized it's an ATX-GES. The mainboard requires an EPS12V
.
I'm already aware it's a 'very bad thing'. The mainboard manual made that quite clear, indicating it can (or will) damage mainboard, CPU, and memory. I'm hoping this is one of those cases where the warning message is really harsh but usually everything turns out ok.
I had researched my supply (an EMACS P2G-6460P) and it appears it ships in both EPS12V AND ATX-GEN. As far as I knew, it was the right PS.
I'm going out tomorrow to get an EPS12V supply but I'd like to know if anyone's ever done this (or knew someone who did) and what the results were.
As a side note, I'm sure there are some who know the very sickening feeling of thinking you just fried some very, very expensive equipment. It actually feels good confessing it
. I will post with the final outcome.
