One more time...I'm really baffled by this problem. I have a very stable system built on an ASUS CUSL-2C, running a PIII 1000MHz between 150MHz FSB and 160, giving me an overclock between 1125 and 1200. I've had a GeF2GTS card in the machine and it has never complained, runs 3dMark reliably, all games, and never a problem.
So, I bought a CardExpert GeF3. Install was straightforward, booted right up, but won't run D3D. Freezes the machine instantly. Running Directx diagnostics gives the error, "Direct 3D acceleration not available". If I reduce the FSB to default 133 the card works fine. So, I thought I got a bad card. Bought a different brand, same problem, bought a third brand, Ti500, same problem. All will run at default FSB, but one MHz over causes a lockup as soon as a D3D application is started.
Drivers are 2183s, BIOS is current, no other changes to the machine other than changing the AGP card. Why will a GeF2 GTS card run reliably in this overclocked machine but none of the GeF3 cards will run at faster than 133 MHz?
Help! Running at default is not what this forum is all about!! Help me get back up to speed....
