Ohio Fairgrounds Turns Down Upcoming Trump Political Rally
The Portage County fairgrounds has a "long-standing policy" of not hosting political rallies, said a county commissioner.

An Ohio fairgrounds board has denied former President Donald Trump permission to hold a political rally at the site later this month, according to county officials.
Portage County commissioners said that a volunteer board in charge of the fairgrounds nixed the rally plans. Commissioner Sabrina Christian-Bennett told Ohio’s Record-Courier newspaper that a board member explained that the venue has “a long-standing policy” of not hosting political rallies.

County Commissioner Tony Badalamenti, a big backer of the rally, claimed the reasons were initially all over the map.
“We went from having the parking lot to be too muddy because it can be, end of April, it can be very muddy. It went from there to you haven’t asked the other [political] party to come and attend it,” he told Fox 8 TV in Cleveland.
“It boiled down to their bylaws said they would not have political events at the fairgrounds,” he added.

Christian-Bennett told the Record-Courier that other fairgrounds are available, but that the Trump team was “fixated” on the Portage County spot. She sad fairgrounds boards in Canfield and Geauga County also turned down the Trump team, the newspaper reported.

Badalamenti said he has spoken several times to Trump’s team about the event planned for April 24. He estimated the rally could bring in up to 20,000 people and millions in dollars in revenue — and that local contractors could fix any damage at a discount.
He told the newspaper that having a former president come to the fairgrounds would be an “honor,” and “turning down the limelight on Portage County I think is appalling.”
The fairgrounds board could not immediately be reached for comment.

So, they are dictating what local contractors will charge for repairing any damages caused by the Rally if allowed to have it? Oh wait, since any cost of fixing any damages would be the responsibility of the Trump team putting on the rally, and Trump doesn't pay his bills, I guess the costs of fixing any damages would be at a discounted rate. Because in their mind, it's a discount when you chose not to pay the bill.

Of course, that isn't what they are saying. What they are really saying, is that the county would be on the hook for paying for the damages that the people attending their rally caused if allowed to hold the rally there. Which is false, as all damages would be the responsibility of the Trump team renting the facility. So they are out right admitting to them, if they did allow them to hold their rally there, they would stiff the county on the repair bills, and most likely not fully pay for other costs associated with the rally, just like they have done in the past.

Heck, If I was them, I would flat out say no, because you have a history of not paying. So piss off.

Is this BS or have they allowed others to hold rally there?

Seems like BS to me. Like it or not it is constitutional to advocate for the overthrow of the government.

We should all recognize that’s what this is, but they should be allowed to do it.

If it is constitutional to advocate for the overthrow of the government would not the denial of access be something the Trump people would need to validate by bringing a law suit in court? Isn’t that where Trump folk take justice to die?

Really? I'll buy you a ticket to the movie of your choice...

Providing you scream "Fire!" halfway through it.
Amusingly enough, that's one of the most frequently misused examples of an exception to the first amendment. It was dictum and therefore not binding precedent, and the case the dicta was uttered in has been overturned.

But more important to this discussion it has always been protected speech to call for the overthrow of the government and to end the constitution.

It is illegal to actually try to DO it, but saying the government should be overthrown is protected.

Never got anybody in trouble. Remember the 50's. It's a question asked if you have ever advocated for the overthrow of the government for any classified job in this country.

But the question asked as to whether bull shit is being fed was, have they allowed political rallies before and are denying just the Trump one, so whether constitutional or not to advocate for the overthrow of the government is legal or not would not be the issue. The legal question, it seems to me would be if it is legal to have bylaws that political rallies are not allowed and if so is application rendered unenforceable because of inconsistent past application.

The worst damage any Trump rally leaves behind them is the chin deep bullshit that the attendees get hosed with.

Smart move, as he almost certainly would have stiffed them for any fees-then countersued the county under RICO if they dared to bring a collection action for the fees due.

It's perfectly justified, legal and prudent business practices to refuse to do business with intentional and known deadbeats.

Trump truly is the role model for the "Take everything you can, burn whatever's left to the ground" kind of guy. Insatiable greed enhanced by a manic insecurity complex and exacerbated by his chronic need to be both adored and feared all of which is underwritten by his wealth makes him out to be one of the most dangerous Americans in existence.

Prohibiting political rallies sounds unconstitutional too.

Alabama banned Trump from holding a July 4, 2021 rally at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Ala., after a permit was approved.

The reasoning given was that all events at this park are supposed to be non-partisan.

The permit was issued before officials knew Trump would attend.

Millions of dollars...really? I guess it's all those 1000's of Trumpers that fly in on private jets, book up all the hotel rooms for 2-3 nights, dine in all the best restaurants, etc. You know, these folks:

I was asked that very question for my TS clearance when joining the Marines. And that was in the late 70s.
