The mindset is not exclusive to Utah. In Parker Colorado they wouldn't allow the new middle school to be named Parker Middle School because the initials would be PMS.

Well, that's understandable. Why subject your institution to completely unintentional ridicule?

That isn't about the perception of some small group of people "perhaps" being offended, even though the mascot is widely used and widely accepted for its real meaning.

Didn't bother the city of Butte, Montana when they voted to call their football team the Butte Pirates.

Boomer, you can throw stats at me all you want, but Utah is in the closet about a lot of things that are not "conservative"; every one knows this.

You can try to cloud the truth anyway you wish...but Utah is one of the most conservative of all the US states.

I am thinking this is more to prevent the students emulating 'cougars' than offending old ladies.

Let's see... Mormonism, polygamy, third fastest growing gay population, one of the most promiscuous city in the US (salt lake)... Yup, pretty conservative if you ask me. And, look up the damn stats yourself.

Obviously you missed the "in the closet" part?

Nope...I saw that...and knew most of it. I lived just north of SLC for about 3 years. None of that takes away from Utah's conservative leanings. Mormonism is heavily conservative...polygamy is part of their roots...and they tend to be VERY conservative. (you might think otherwise, but no.)

Out of curiosity have either of you ever lived or even been to Utah, or are you just arguing for the fun of it?

Read the fucking post just above yours...

How hard can it be to stay up with a thread?

LOL, not even a signature between it and my post, maybe 40 pixels, sorry.
I have only visited myself, through SLC, spent more time in southern and western Utah. I learned a bit about it from that show "how states got their shapes" pretty interesting stuff.

The U of Houston mascot is the cougar. Why do people get pissed about this stuff? I bet 95 percent of the people complaining are stay at home moms.
